Need advice on shortening HP9-1 forend

I want to shorten the backend of my forend so that it does not overlap the reciever of my HP9-1. I am currently having problems with the velcroed flaps on the cuffs of my field parkas getting caught between the forend and the receiver when I am strkong this pump.

Has anyone done this themselves? Any advice or pics would be appreciated before I pull out my hacksaw and Dremel and have at her!

Remove the forearm from the slide assembly. I found that large needle nose pliers held open on the lug slots work well to remove it. Mark the area to cut and cut with a NEW hack saw blade. Finish edge with fine grit sandpaper. Re assemble, use BLUE lock tite on fore end lug nut. Should be fine after that.

Mark where you want to chop.

Dis-assemble the f/e and use a mitre saw.

Reassemble and DO NOT use LocTite on the threads.

Or simply get a short Hogue forend for like 20$.

I did it to my 7shot 870 Express. It would not clear my TacStar 6 shot side saddle so I had to cut it down. So, I marked the forend where it needed to be cut and left a few MM of clearance between in case I racked it really hard I did not want to to hit. Went out to the garage and had at er with my dremel. Mind you I did not even take the forend assembly off, I did it with the tube in the middle of it and the rails still attached. Just made sure I did not cut through and nick em. If I was to do it again i would fully disassemble and lay it upside down so you have a flat surface to cut on.When I was done I fixed it up with a dremel. When I was with ArwinAce I used his belt sander to make the end flush again and it turned out great. Defiantly a good solution pre-SureFire forend.

A short forend will also make unloading and clearing certain jams a whole lot easier. Take the stock off the rails, if you get stuck for a forend wrench you can use the bolt carrier plate. Make sure it is tight and check it periodically, a loose forend is really the only thing that can put an 870 out of commission.
