Need Advice Sako TRG-42 338Lapua 0r 300Win Mag??

Jester79 check out at Gun&Wholesales in Edmonton on 338 Lapua ammo, Hornady 250grain box of 20 go for around $80, that pretty good price in a long times...

Hi Jester

Not that long ago I had this same decision to make and went with the .338LM. I think you'll find that precision shooting and reloading go hand in hand so that the cost avantage of shelf 300 WM becomes less of an issue. I've had no problem getting once fired brass for the .338LM.

Sound like jester79 have the money, and I hope that he made a ring or at lease some what good decision, if you decide to go with the 338 lapua, then there are many member here on the forum got some for sales, maybe that would help instead of buying a brand new one.

i have switched my .300wm 700 tuned, rebarreled, new-stocked and name them all for a TRG-42 in .338 lapua, just asking myself WHY I DIDN'T DO that before ?? Also, i have just read a complete review from 2 rifle, the TRG42 and the AI, out to 1600 yard, they have the same accuracy, at 942 yard, the TRG even produced a 4in group of 3 VS 6in for the AI BUT the AI can stabilize the 300 gr FAR more better than the TRG.

The advantage of the TRG is the weight, about the same as a regular bull barreled rifle long action and, too, if you reload, the price of reloaded ammo is about the same as the .300wm

Hey Hammerhead,

Where did you get your HTR for $1000? I'll buy 2 of them tomorrow!

The TRG 42 is a great gun and the 338 Lapua is a great round, if you want to get one, do it and have fun. Reloading is a must regardless of which calibre you choose, for accuracy purposes of course. You will have a hard time finding a factory gun that shoots as well as any TRG out there so it is a great choice again regardless of calibre.
