Hi, I'm new here and decide to get some help from here so I can have right choice for my first rifle:)

I ran into and find a norinco m14 standard from local shop and they have only one left. It is demo gun so they said it'll be cheaper then usual. At this point I already showed my excitement and showed my interest and ask for how much and they called $399. I already made ordered from SFRC so I told them I'll make some change and will comeback and they told me to hurry since it's last one left.

Now I cool down a bit later and trying to evaluate, that gun doesn't come with no sling, one 5/20 mag, no cleaning kit, comes with a cardboard box, hand guard wiggles(rattles) and its muzzle brake/flash hinder has no holes(or muzzle vent?). Guy told me It is cool as it is but I'm not sure about semi-auto rifle with muzzle brake that has no muzzle vent.

So I'm start to think $399(It's Quebec so probably plus tax and it will be around $450) is might not a good deal for demo gun with many missing components compare to NIB and I'm not sure rattled hand guard is normal and not sure about its muzzle brake.

On the other hand I don't have to worry about shipping and able to get it right away and might have chance to make new relationship with local gun/smithing shop.

Any ideas if I should take it or make best offer? if I have to make an offer then how much should I call for it?

p/s:Guy told me It is better to get my own cleaning kit since original cleaning kit sucks anyways. Also they can offer me good deal on case if I need. I don't know how much deal they can give me but rifle itself is described as above. I only been there and stand and chat not for long so I think there is room for make a deal.

I'd pass on the demo and get the NIB from one of the board supporters. My hand guard doesn't rattle, and it's nice having the factory components.

Agree with everyone here. At $399 - especially if you'll end up paying tax on it - for a demo gun that seems to have some minor issues (rattling hand guard..??), you're better off getting one used off the EE or get one NIB from some of the dealers here (a few of which offer free shipping).

That being said, I recommend to all my friends who are interested in the M14 to get a used one in the EE as many people purchase these rifles, then find that they are too expensive to shoot, so you get a pretty much new gun for a good deal (and no tax!).

my opinion that someone STOLE the cleaning kit out of it- and he's been sitting on it a while was solid flash hiders were current quite a while back- at least 2008 or so- before the bell plastic afaik- the loose handgard is no big deal, and easily fixed if you want- me, i feel the guy is shady , and wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole-the sling is again no bigee, but finding a bag for one can be a real pain, unless you replace the 5/20 with a 5/5 or go around with no mag in place- where you really notice it is when you stick a scope on that bad boy- changes the dimensions completely- with BOTH a scope and a 5/20 in place, you need something like a long swat bag- and those can be pricey- mine was 160 way back when

Buy new from Can Ammo as your not saving anything much. If you want it cheaper go and get one off the EE, they sell for about $350

Like the wise Katana said. You would be better off bying a new rifle from a reputable dealer that many of us have already had good success with. This sounds like an older model and you have to think it was probably buddies personal gun, that said who knows what he has or has not done to it. A few more dollars for a new production model would give you a known commodity. Best plan IMHO.
