Need advice ! Which rifle ?

I would imagine the SL-8?? I'd say ar-15, but it's restricted, so that doesn't fit what you need re non-ipsc activities...

Exactly Viper..............

You know EESA does have a 300m range.........we are not using it for this years 3 gun match but there is no reason why we could not.

The AR180, XCR ( not short barrel) and M96 are all NON restricted.

How do SKS rifles fare in IPSC? Is it often done?

One guy used one at the 3 gun we had last month...

It was painful to watch

I'm sure that it is possable to make them work but I don't think it's the tool for IPSC 3 gun...

I am tempted to try a 3 gun match with a Garand......

My 3 gun rifle IS a Garand. But I've had it somewhat customized. I've had it rebarreled with an 18 1/2" barrel and chambered in .243 Win. It's fitted with a black synthetic stock and it's topped off with a Burris 1- 3/4 x intermediate eye relief scope mounted just forward of the receiver on quick detachable mounts. Wanna see some pics?

Hi

In all fairness to that particular SKS, it was only the second time the owner had shot it. Having said that, an SKS is not a great choice for an IPSC rifle match.

I had originaly planned on using my Garand at the EOHC 3 gun match, but I found out beforehand that some of the courses of fire were set up to be 5 round friendly. I only had one 5 round enblock. I used my 14.5" Armalite instead. The last course, the 8 round Garand would have worked great.

Curious. Can a shooter use mixed capacity mags in an IPSC match? I know it is taboo in IDPA.

The thing that was really painfull at the EOHC 3 gun match was watching people shoot shotguns. 10 people in my squad. The handgun part of the match went like clockwork, everybody had their act together.

The Shotgun part. One guy had a Winchester riot gun. Said it was over 70 years old. Said he had not shot it in 9 years. It's his turn. Loads it, the buzzer goes off, Bang! and that was it for several seconds as he fought it to pump the next round.

Then after, he lends it out to others so they can have screw ups also :?

It took 3 hours to do 4 courses of fire  Made for a long day. Only 4 from my squad stayed for rifle.

"You went into battle with an unproven weapon?" from the ghost and the darkness. I might add, "and spent $75.00 to shoot the match?"

guess the thread kind of got hijacked...oops!

Mixed capacity mags would not be an issue...

...and yes I was made to understand that the rifle was brand spanking new

I'm not even sure that the Garands are an ideal choice...very nice rifles, I just don't think that clip fed rifles are the best choice for IPSC 3 gun...too slow to reload

How about the vz58 I figured this would start to dominate 3 gun matches at least for newer shooters. I think lever has a non restricted version. Ammo is cheap and if you wanted to you could even use it for deer.
