Hi all. I am new to the non tatical shotgun scene and jus tbought a Beretta 686 from a fellow member to use for trap, skeet and the other fun reactive target games that I can use it for.

Any good websites to figure out what chokes I should buy and other equipment I need.

Thanks

Steve

Your best bet is talking to the vets who have been shooting forever, I`m sure there are tons at your club. Just remember that every guy will have different thoughts on chokes, stance, gun placement. Ask all the right ? and above all watch the good shooters and try to copy their good habits.

If you belong to a club already ask the vets as Thad advises. Most guys are more than happy to help a new shooter.I joined a club on the advice of 2 of my friends who were already into the skeet/sporting clays games and they provided me with some good advice.I also took some lessons which were a great help to me as well.(I was/am a rifle & pistol shooter who was used to shooting static targets.)Be careful, once the bug gets you, there's no turning back.(Buying new shotguns etc.) Enjoy the fun!! A good site is www.shotgunworld.com. The previous posters are right on when they say join a club and observe the regulars. Be prepared to get LOTS of advice. Shotgunners just love to talk shooting. Most of all just get out there and shoot and enjoy. As far as chokes you'll need, depends on the activity. Skeet will require 2 Skeet chokes. Trap shooters use mostly full and Modified. In Sporting generally the IC tube will do. A good shooting vest, shooting glasses, ear plugs and shooting gloves will round out your kit. Usually a range bag to carry all that gear will also be handy. Be warned... busting clay targets IS addictive.:)

Thanks for all the advice.

I have been shooting IPSC for over a year so I already have good quality equipment. I knew going in that this was going to be another 2-3 thousand dollar a year hobby.

Well, you will most certantly want skeet chokes for skeet shooting. For regular trap you will in all likelyhood need improved modified or full (I break more clays with imp modified). For double trap, I have had more sucess with modified for the first dhot and imp mod for the second.
Cheers/luck, John

It's the one before the second.

"Skeet" and "Skeet" ( quite a concept, eh ? - they're made for the game :) ) with No.9's (or 8's if you don't have/can't get 9's) ... shoot the bottom barrel first ... 7/8 oz or 1 oz. ( relatively light, "target" ) loads at 1200 fps are more than enough.
