Hey All,
This is first time reloading.....need to pick some brains if anyone can help. Need some loads for my m14, tokarev pistol, and nagant revolver.

For the M14 I am using 150G nozzler ballistic tips, 150G match kings, and
150G Sierra Spitzers. Have N-140 and IMR4064. I have federal, winchester, pmc, and ivi brass. Whats your best recipes for these ingredients?

For the Tok pistol I have Sierra 85G round nose and N340 powder. Starline brass. Best bets?

For the Nagant revolver I have 98G TMJ wad cutter type dealies and not a clue about which powder to use. Not sure on bullet manufacturor, got them from tradex. Graf brass.

Today at the range, with the m14, with the 150G ballistic tips, the max load of 46.5G of N140 worked the best out of the lot, starting at 42.5G, working up in half grain jumps..............but was still not that hot of a group......no better than factory federal 150G soft points. The low end of 42.5 was a big messy group........slowly getting tighter as the powder came up.

So..........if any of you all could share a few loads that you have found to work in these same guns using those ingredients............would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Can't help with the handgun ammo.
You have to work up the load for your rifle. No two rifles/firearms will shoot the same ammo the same way.
"...not that hot of a group..." Your rifle doesn't like the load.
Work up the load using IMR4064. It gives extremely consistent accuracy.
The Nosler BT's and Sierra's are deer/bear hunting bullets. MatchKing$ are target bullets and don't expand. (OK for hunting varmints though.) Pick one for whatever shooting you do most and work up the load.
IVI milsurp brass is a bit thicker than commercial. You have to reduce the charge by 10% and work up. The primers may be crimped in too. Haven't played with IVI ammo for years myself. If they're crimped, the crimp has to be removed before loading. Not a big deal. It's a one time thing. Use your chamfering tool.

Hey thanks bud. Do you think the 4064 will be too slow burning for 150G bullets tho? A fella I ran into today was kinda thinking it might be. I bought the 4064 for my Mauser...........but happened to notice it was listed in the load data in the Nossler book for 150G BT's, so thats why I was thinking of using it.
The N140 was listed as the most accurate powder in the Nossler guide.............but I realise that was on a bolt gun...........not a gas gun........was wondering if anyone has had any luck with that powder in an M14? The best I got was a 2 ish inch group at 100m using 46.5 grains. That specific gun will shoot 1 inch with factory federal 150 soft points.
As for the bullet types, I target shoot mostly........and just starting hunting for the first time this year............so I bought the Sierra spitzers just for plinking at the range, same with the matchkings...........and the ballistic tips for deer this fall. Bought a little of everything at the local gun show, and am just fooling around trying to figure out what works, and what doesnt.
I dont have a ton of the IVI brass, most of the 500 pieces I have is federal and pmc, that I have shot thru my m14. the ivi was stuff I found at the range.
Any thoughts on Winchester 748 powder for the M14? A fella I talked with said he has had great luck using 47G of that over a 147 FMJ.

And I have been searching for good data on the nagant.........just havent found much. Seems most people use 32acp for it, or just leave it hanging on the wall. Would like to find an easily available powder to use, and some good info on how deep the bullets should be seated below the end of the case. And what to do with all the empty space between the couple grains of powder and the bullet itself. Perhaps stuff with cotton to keep the powder uniform in the case? Not sure, this reloading stuff is brand new to me........I'm all ears!
