Need Advise for Optic.... Short and mid range shooting.

Hi!

I need some advise about Red Dot and Optic. But first I explain my situation.

I own a SL8 and a M14.

Right now on my SL8 I have a Busnell 3200 DOA (4x-12x) mounted on it. And on the Bushnell I have a Vortex Sparc. I really like shooting with the red dot at the rang (~ 50 yard) but some times I'm going outdoor to shoot 100-200 Yards...

Because of the configuration, my red dot is nearly 6 inches above the barrel. (I have try to mount it on the side, but I don't like this configuration... ) I feel confortable with the red dot height but it force me to compensate when I shoot something really small...

In the same time I need an optic for my M14. And I have think about switching my Busnell on my M14 and buying a Red Dot Magnifier to replace it. It will solve the height issue and will give magnification for longer shooting.

Is it a good solution for you or I should buy a new scope to complete my configurations? Anyone have experience with the 3X magnifier and a Red Dot when shooting at 200 yard??? I know the Red Dot get magnified but is it disturbing? I can't find a picture example of what it look like. Anyway it's not like witnessing it...

If it's not really good, what Scope I should buy to shoot beetween 50 and 200 yards? Is there a In-between solution (Red Dot/Scope) on the market? I'm looking for a non expensive solution if possible...

I find this one... Seem Interesting. But it's often offert with an other Red Dot mounted on it??? Is it mean it's not really efficient for fast shooting?

Look at the Elcan Spectre....@1x it's a red dot, at 4X, it's a scope...

I you have a good budget and can spend more, i have on my MR-1 Benelli a S&B 1.1X4X20 Short Dot, i do not think you can get a more potent optic for the distance you are mentionning, incredible piece of glass expensive but whorth every penny... JP.

That's the OS4X, it's a fixed 4 times magnification, not a 1-4X DR. Still a really nice optic, but be ware that there's no 1x setting.

Gravedigger had a Nightforce 1-4x24 listed on the EE for $850 - that might work.

I have a NF 2.5-10x24 on an M14 and love it.

If you want less expensive, a lot of guys are pointing at Vortex as the way to go...

Falcon SIR is a good option IMO. I have one on my 14.5 inch and I quite like it and it fits my meager budget. I will be adding another for my SR rifle for next season I think.

Vortex Viper PST is very good.

x2! Thats what I use on my SL8/G36k Clone. With matching Vortex tactical "Low" rings, it sits just on the rail.

I prefer running an aimpoint and have no problems out to 200 yards with it. I'll be testing in next month at a major match beyond 200 yards, so we'll see how small those targets are

A decent one is usually around $450 or more, with an extra $60-$120 for the mount

Green tips is right. 200m is short game stuff and no magnification is required to clean a figure 12 at 200m.

How about the Millet DMS? - Although since I was out today shooting irons at 200m, I'm thinking a simple red dot could easily handle it.
