Hi,
I've bought a Savage 10FCP-SR with a Bushnell Elite Tactical 4200 6x24-50 a couple of months ago to start target/precision shooting.
For those who don't know the model it has the accustock (alu bedding) 24'' barrel with 1/10'' twist.

I shot approximately 300 rounds through it so I assume everything is in place now, I was looking mainly for consistency of the ammo over hitting bullseye and the barrel was warm not crazy hot nor cold.
The 3 brands I tried were:
Winchester super x 180gr (sorry no image but shot similar to the hornady bellow.)
Hornady Match 168gr @ 130yds

Remington Core Lokt 150gr @ 130yds

The 180gr and 168gr shot really bad as opposed to the 20$ 150gr from remignton. I really had high expectation for the match ammo since everybody seems to like this one so do you have any recommendation for another brand/model of ammo I should try?

Also I shot most of the first 300rds with 145gr ammo does it affect/explain why I have better results with the 150gr over the 168gr?
My guess is it don't but that's the only logical explanation I have for getting such results.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

You should be very happy. Your rifle likes cheap ammo!
I have one very similar to yours... 10 twist, 24"bbl.. I tried 155's but it didn't like 'em. Mine likes 168 and 178 Amaxes. I know you are shooting factory, and that's fine. Just count yer blessings that you don't have to feed it FGMM! If you wanna try some real cheap crap, get some Fed. blue box... about $25... shoot 'em and chuck the cases. They are useless for reloading.
If at all possible, get into reloading... you can really tailor a load to your gun then.
By the way, I like your gun. You made the right choice by getting the older version... C.

Thanks I really enjoy this rifle I originally looked at the 10tr which was a great value but the price is now around 750$ since it's available for everybody so by adding the 10rd box mag conversion and all small gimmies the final price was 950$ which is what I paid for a new FCP-SR, I prefer the camo and bolt slightly smaller and comes with the 10rd mag so it was a no brainer.

Actually I paid 45$ for the Hornady Match which is pretty similar to the fgmm. You know if the Rems Core Lokt can be reloaded? From what I understand discussing with other people I might not be able to get better results with other ammo since this is already 1 MOA.

BTW do we measure from Center to Center or from Side to Side? If it's C2C I guess we could call this Sub Moa....
I'll try to adjust my position, breathe and boner when I shoot hopefully I'll get better results.

Cheers

Skim bed the action into the stock. Even though it is in Accustock, the action in not fitted 100% to the stock. Also start handloading.

Hey Grendeb I felt the same as you about bolt knob size. I like the smaller round knob like on the PC and FCP-K, but, for function, believe me the bigger knob is a great handle. I use my guns on the bench so I single load and didn't care about a large mag. Guess it's nice to have, though.
I do not know about the Rem. brass. You may not get any better results with different factory ammo, but I guarantee if you come to the dark side (reloading) you WILL see a difference. My .308 (10TR) averages a little over .5 moa at 100 and 200 M., and just under 1 moa at 300. My .223 (FCP-K) is equal to or better than that and a heck of a lot cheaper to shoot.
The way to measure your group is outside to outside of the holes that are furthest apart, then subtract your bullet diameter. Don't forget to call your fliers!! HAHA... have fun... C.

keep shooting. I just got my 10FCPK (used but new to me) and only have 40 rounds down the pipe using Federal XM80CL 149gr bulk FMJ.
Only my 2nd time out and zeroing my rifle so i can apply loctite to the threads. I have ZERO complaints with the bulk ammo, although I have not started reaching out past 100yards yet.

Here are my last 3 shot groups with the very last one of the day absolutely blowing my mind as it is 0.125"!! That is crazy for bulk ammo and I will be buying some more for sure! I reload for ipsc, but with these groupings and at $0.84/round, its hard to be bothered to with reloading for my first season.

Last 3 Shot Group rounds: 38-40.
