Need an airgun for squirrels and crows. reasonably priced... your suggestions?

My Diana and my excalibur have both taken squirrels in my backyard. The trick is to shoot out the window with the muzzle inside the house. That way your neighbours won't hear you. Also make sure you are shooting on an angle down towards the ground. Pellets will richoet off hard ground.

Another vote for the Crosman Phantom you can get almost anywhere (like Walmart) for $100.00 -$110.00. The .22 does close to 500fps (enough for squirrels) and if you block the hole in the piston it will increase velocity to 700+ fps (need PAL at that point) giving it great power for squirrels, rabbits, crows, etc.

First of all you want a .22.

If you seek low cost and relatively low power get a QB-78.

It's a well made clone of an older Crosman air rifle and is very quiet since most of the CO2 has expanded when the pellet leaves the muzzle.

You will likely want a AO scope if you want accuracy. Mine will easily shoot into one ragged hole at 10M.

If you want higher power but still quiet go with a Bejamin Trail which is an air powered gas ram gun (no metal spring).

Bonus is you get a scope included for $300.

When I had squirrels in the attic I set up victor rat traps with peanut butter. Every night the traps would go off and there was no squirrel. :-(
I'm not saying its impossible to catch one in a rat trap but its just not idea. Squirrels are a lot bigger and more muscular than rats.

Quite likely mice were setting off your traps. They will do that. Many squirrels have bitten the dust in the victor trap/peanut butter combo in my back yard.
That said in the woods I use a Gamo CFX with PBA, which is a lot more fun.

You need to place the rat trap in a tube or narrow box so that the squirrels body lines up with the machinism. Preferably a blind tube so that the bale hits it square on the neck or body and not from the side, or with the squirrel standing over the bale. Place the trigger end nearest the opening. Learned this at a trapper course.

Same problem with squirrels here. Rat traps don't work... I've tried them several times... all you find are empty traps and no squirrels. Sub-500 fps pellet rifles/pistols are cruel and way too under powered to humanely dispatch an Eastern grey squirrel (unless you are VERY close). Discharge of handguns are illegal in the city. You are really limited to live traps, and relocation or a "garbage can swim". I now choose to relocate and most don't return.

"...for pest control..." You'd best check the local discharge laws first. Most will include air rifles and archery kit. Then look at BC's hunting regs. Crows may not have a season, but squirrels likely do. Getting charged under either Act will result in the loss of all your firearms and your PAL.
