I've acquired a tired old 32-20 that apparently key holes jacketed rounds. This leads me to believe that a softer (PL?) bullet will likely be required.
Something in the range of 100 grain with a decent Meplat; it's a tube gun ( pump ), this sort of information is kind of nessesary for bullet choice
The chamber shows itself to be eroded( or perhaps just generous ) in the fired brass. So annealing is also likely required, but that is merely a side note.
Thanks for any help put forth.

I suggest that you look at the Lee 90311. That's what I used in my Husqvarna that was chambered in 32-20.

Does it have good crimp grooves? I'm not running BP, so the bullets can telescope under recoil / tube spring pressure.
And RN doesn't work for me, I like a Meplat for it's terminal effect on game.
And thanks for the advice BTW

It's a tumble lube design so yes,it has many grooves you can crimp your case on.
It's fantastic bullet.I use it in all my 30 cal milsurps unsized, just tumble lubed and it works better than great up to 50 yrds.
Only my 303s seem to be "meh" about it.

Want me to send you some to try?

I probably wouldn't get a standard diameter bullet mold if you already have issues with keyholing. Slug your barrel and find out what's going on - do you need a larger bullet? Using a larger diameter bullet can help and softer lead will sometimes help as well.

Accurate Molds 31-105C is a great flat based bullet. If you want a gas check bullet then the 31-112L is also very nice and feeds in the two rifles I tried it in. :)

Accurate will make the driving bands any size you want for no extra charge, so you can order them oversize if you want.

I'm sure you already know that it's usually fine to shoot cast bullets .002-.003" larger than the groove diameter when using softer lead. As long as you can chamber the cartridge and close the action they will shoot without issue. Using the widest bullet that you fit in the chamber seems to give the most accuracy and stability.

Thanks Jet. I've played this same game with a 38-55 and solved it, and I agree with you.
I plan on using PL in front of a fast powder, Unique is usually what I go with. But I've some Tin Star that I may try.
I've not slugged it as of yet ( God, where does my time go?), but will be getting to it.
I've viewed the Lee offerings, but I'm an Elmer Keith fan...need a fat Meplat for terminal performance. Lee just seems to fall short in this aspect.
That 31-105C seems to be a better offering. Nice flat Meplat too.
Now to source some and see if the old Marlin 27 will feed them properly...
