Hey dudes. Looking into a new scope for my .22 bolt action. Like to shoot varmints and paper. I'm stuck between two scopes for around $200 and if you have any experience please let me know.

Vortex crossfire II 4-12x50 AO BDC reticle. Drawn towards this for the increased objective.
OR
Sightron 4-12x40 AO also with BDC type reticle. Drawn to this for reputation.

It's being mounted on a savage MKII BTVSS via Burris signature zee rings high. Unless someone has a better idea.

Cheers,

J

50mm objectives are a bit unnecessary on a gopher rifle. They aren't generally out at last light or early morning so the increased brightness is not a factor. Add to that the fact that the the 50mm will have to sit quite high, likely preventing a good cheek weld, and there's really no compelling reason to go with it. 40mm is as big as I go with the exception of my Nightforce scopes which have 50 and 55mm objectives. My Mark 4 is a 40mm version and my hunting scopes are all smaller than 40mm.

Thanks for all the input. I actually went with neither and am trying something new. I wanted a 50mm objective because of how much I like my bushnell tactical on my .204. I went with something a little bigger mag wise with some other features. I planned on using high rings regardless because again I'm trying to replicate the feel of my .204 that's in the same stock as my .22lr. I can also put the scope on a different rifle down the road as its under warranty for any cal.
