16" SFW outer dimensions required. Anyone have access to one of these and some calipers?

Looking for the 16" with the Diemaco/HK Launcher mount barrel.

Thanks!

I also am interested in the same information.

I am sure we want the same details.

Basically, the length, and the profile information so I could have one turned. So I need to know the location of steps etc.

I believe that this was listed in a recent Small Arms Review as they did a special multi-part on Canadian Diemaco rifles.

15.8" heavy barrel. producing 895 m/s providing an increase in range and terminal penetration. The Brit SF seem to like them :)

They're the old Cdn thermolds. They might be fine for loading only 5 rounds into on the range, but as a service mag they blow.

Actually, they could be the improved synthetic magazines made from a different material than the old thermold mags, and with a different dimensions on the lips and a different date stamped on them and in service all over the world including with several NATO countries because their old metal mags come apart at the welds and get dented in the body and cause stoppages and get bent lips, but it's hard to tell from a picture:)

I haven't had the misfortune to handle a thermold since mid 94 so I'll have to take your word for it.

All the same, I'd prefer to still be issued with the metal mags thanks.

Probalbly a good idea if you are military and have minimi in the inventory. No synthetic mags like the minimi. I hear they don't much like metal mags either.

Cheers,

Colt Canada still manufactures the "Thermold" type mags. They are a completely different material than the type most Canadian soldiers suffered with. The crappy ones are the ones dated 86 and previous.

The company stands by the design features of the mag and claims that it exceeds the mil spec standards of steel ones. Pros are that when the mag is damaged it is obvious, it doesn't warp or dent it will just break and you can replace it. Many metal mags are used waaaay past their expected usable service life.

The ridges is a design feature that I think is clever, it adds to the grip and the ridge around the middle prevents stress on the mag lips or bottom of the bolt if the mag is rested on something heavily. Having said that, the ridges take up more room in pouches and do not slide as easily.

I too suffered from the trauma caused by plastic mag lips exploding, all my AR mags at home are steel but I'll try some new ones if they are avaliable and cheap. :)

I still think that barrel is butt reaming ugly:p .

I've heard that it is a "sleeve" that's been placed over the barrel:confused: I dunno?

I don't think that you would be able to take a standard heavy 16" barrel and make it exactly with the profile you are looking for. I haven't physically handled one of them, but it looks like at the point marked #3 in the pic, that it is even larger diameter than a HB profile?

If not, just use the pic and a lathe and eliminate anything on your barrel that doesn't look like the pic:D .

I think after all the work/money you would still end up with a barrel too ugly to put on a rifle.

;)

I hear ya. But, if you wanted to mount a HK launcher, what is the diameter of the fattest band on the barrel in question (or the fattest part of the G36 barrel).

Not (necessarily) talking about re-profiling a 16" HBAR, or matching the look of the C8SFW, just want the diameter of the fattest part and figured that was the easiest way to ask.

Cheers!
