I'm building my first ar and have everything but the barrel. I'm going to use my 223 55 grain fmj rounds. I was thinking of going with a 1/12 twist barrel. Maybe a 223 wylde? 16"ish. Does this sound like it's going to work good with my rounds.and if so I can't find anyone who sells one .

I would go with an 8 twist barrel, leaves you the option to shoot heavier if you decide to later. Can't overstabilize so no harm going tighter than you need to for 55gr projectiles unless you also plan to use 35-40 grain soft jacketed hunting projectiles really hot. Hard to get enough velocity from a 16 inch to have them come apart though.
The last AR I sold had a 12 inch 8 twist with Wylde chamber and it would shoot 55gr FMJ into around 2 moa and 77gr match into about 0.9 moa. It probably could have done better if I had more than a 4x optic on it.

I just put togetjer together a new upper with a Faxon barrel. So far showing great potential. Working on load development is showing a few loads close to moa with 77 smks. Ringing steel at 500 with it is pretty fun.

I would stick with a 1/7 or 1/8 personally. They will work just fine with 55 grain pills, and leave the options for heavier stuff wide open as well.
