Hello loyal CGN members....
For a month now I have been agonizing over what shall become my second ever pistol.... and I think I have it narrowed to two finalists.

In no particular order: a Jericho 941 9mm (range kit) reasons I like it are the weight, the way it feels in my hand and the obvious "tank" like construction.
and the other front runner is a Girsan Regard MC 9mm...reasons I like it are the feel in the hand, the placement of the controls and the ease in which the slide racks.

NOW, what I am hoping for is a few additional experienced comments that could possibly remove the "fence post" from my rear and help me make my final decision.
As I obviously have a minisule amount of experience in comparison to many of our esteemed and even revered posters, your constructive critiques on both of these pieces
would be of great help to me.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to you both. Silverfoxdj, I have tried a CZ75 but didn't like the feel of it in my hand.
Enefgee, I agree that DA/SA is not the most optimal way to learn, but, I have not been able to find a DAO pistol in my price range ($500-600) that fits my hand nearly as comfortably as either of the final two choices.
And seeing as I live in Victoria, my options for retail outlets to examine, handle/fondle, and play with pistols is limited to two locations (One of which is only open 3 days a week and has limited pistol stock, the other has better stock but higher prices).
I had also considered a Taurus PT809 (unable to get one around here to look at), a Norinco 1911-A1 9mm (everyone seems to have a hate on for Norinco around here).....Other than those mentioned it seems the market is either at the $1000+ price point or
Polymer frame glock/Springfield/S&W clones (which i don't find to be a comfortable feel for myself).

If anyone has an available suggestion for an alternative in the $500-600 price range that would give the same comfort as the Girsan or Jericho in a DAO, I would love to get one in my hands to feel and rack the slide etc.

Thanks guys!

No worrys unless you have a really large hand your the first person I've heard of that did not like the feel of a CZ, usually it's selling point.

Standingtall, since by your own admission you're in competition for a "The Hulk" stand in contest :D you should try holding the Glocks. I've got Large to XLarge size hands, from the gloves I buy, and still find the Glock feels like a 2x4 in my hands. I shoot a Glock just fine but I ended up with CZ's as my first choice and the Beretta 92fs as my second. The Jericho was in the running right by the CZ until I found out that I could buy the holsters and mags for the CZ more easily which fit in with my IPSC plans more readily.

Speaking of the 92fs that I found a couple of years later and bought I can see why you would like the Girsan. The Beretta pattern needs a BIG hand to fit it well. I barely qualify. I really don't see how half the users in the US military manage. ESPECIALLY the women! The Beretta has a really FAT grip that seems to require a rather large paw to hold it well.

Since this will be your second gun I suppose the Girsan isn't a bad option rather than buying the actual Beretta. And as long as it's a faithful copy on the inside spares shouldn't be an issue. But I'd check into that before I leap.

What I found about the Beretta 92 platform is that the decocker/safety on the slide is just too easy to switch to "Safe" mode when racking the slide. And since I've pretty much trained myself to slingshot the slide during slidelock reloads this has resulted in a lot of "surprises" during practice sessions at IPSC or IDPA style shooting sessions. As a result I've elected to avoid using my Beretta for events where reloads under the clock are required. And that's a shame since it IS a nice shooting gun.

The safety/decocker on the slide is a "questionable" point. But I just can't seem to find anything as comfortable....as for the holster et al for the Jericho (steel frame of course), I was looking at the range kit that comes with a fobus holster, fobus mag holster and 3 mags. I also found a site that sells a ton of Jericho related stuff (Ie: Idpa/Ipsc holsters, mag holsters, mags, sights etc specifically for the Jericho).

Probably will wind up with a CZ 75 SP-01 eventually (it has a different grip feel than the CZ 75B that I have played with....which was a 1985 model btw), but the wife has cleared me for a certain $ amount and I do not wish to incur her wrath by over spending...LOL
Gotta have something to play with now that I can afford, so I can save up for what I really want for later :)

Go for it you can always ask for forgiveness and explain it's a gun for life ..lol

Thanks again for the sage advice guys. The one thing I have found getting back into shooting after a fairly long absence is that the "firearm culture" is welcoming and very informative....
I wont hesitate to petition for wisdom in the future!

Thank you all!

I've got decent sized mitts, and I quite like shooting my buddies Jericho. I cannot comment on the Girsan, but the Jericho is pretty sweet. Sigs have pretty big grips as well, and are DA/SA like the others.

I own a 941 all steel and a Girsan Yavus 16 both are great pieces, i LOVE my 941 and i love my Girsan. Both are well made, both shoot well but i found the 941 to be like bang on no need for adjusting sights or anything.

Thanks guys, went and got the Jericho 9mm (got = waiting for the the regi/att....and in B.C that could take a month). Any one have any suggestions for an online shop to get a couple more mags...everywhere ive looked is sold out (and I am aware that the t95/witness mags and the cz75 mags will work).

Thanks again

Huh - I too would of mentioned the CZ Shadow - until I read the comment about your mitts ...

Have you held a Sig P226 yet? I've got the TAC-OPS version and is definitely one of my favs.

2 cents:

Mp9 for budget
Sig p226 for the real deal
Cz 75 the original, you can find them new in B (firing pin block) configuration.

forget the blocks, I mean, glocks.
