I was wanting to experiment with maching my own roll crimpers (I'm going to end up making afew gauges)

Curious if any one uses one and can provide me some pictures

The Ballistic Products crimpers seem to have some sort of pin or screw in the side of them. Curious of this detail. Assuming its for a "roller" or wheel like device

Thanks for any help

I have one in .410 bore. The pin is solid and does not move or roll: I believe it is designed to cause the very tip of the plastic shell to "warm" up without melting, thus allowing the edge to curl inwards slightly since the interior of the roll crimper is tapered on the outside. The rotation speed causes the plastic to heat up and the pressure from the interior taper curls a lip inwards onto the paper shot card. That pin is also only through half way (radius, not diameter length) and is at a slight angle (15 degrees maybe) and I don't find a lot of difference in direction of spinning at all.

It works well but has less "life" I find than a flawlessly repeated crimp: over time that curl never straightens perfectly so the excess has to be "heated" straight with another cone shaped tool. The repeated heating closed and then open shortens the case slightly over time.

If you have other questions I'll see what I can do.
