need dog suggestions

I love Labs any lab ive met has been a good dog. :)

But i found Australia Blue heelers are Good to! Mine doesnt Bark when out Hunting, loves guns, Swims like a fish, and can jump 5 ft strait up in the air.
Dixie only cost me $150

Shes small even for a heeler she aint that big. they have Short legs, but they make up for there size as there Tuff little wads and tenacious to :)

Shes bigger than a terrier and smaller than a colie about the size of a male Red Fox.
 
My pitbull shepard lab cross swam 200yds out into the middle of a lake and retreived all 245 lbs of Lazyike ,his air mattress and his cocktail everytime lazyike called(that would be everytime the glass was empty).

Most of the retreiver breeds often appear to be as smart as a sack of hammers but usually they are just reflecting their owners committment to the partnership or poor bloodlines.

What about the labradoodle? I'm "puppy sitting" one right now and she is an amazing young dog. Anyone hunting with this breed?

I have to throw in another vote for the Lab. There are many breeds that might make a better field dog or a better water dog but for the best of both worlds get a lab.

A lab can be trained to toll as well and there are some pointing varities of labs out there if that is what you are looking for.

Myself I have a Lab (unpapered) that came from good hunting stock she is 9 months old and I know she is going to please me this fall. I also have a Lab mix (not sure if she is shepherd or collie etc) she has prven to be an excellent grouse flusher.

My father has a Lab, not sure of it's origins as it came from the SPCA, she also might be a mix. But she, with little training will retrieve anything you ask her too, will flush Pheasants and Grouse and will also chase Rabbits almost as good as a beagle but for shorter periods of time.

I will never be without a Lab until I die.
 
I am in the same boat, looking for a new hunting dog, we lost our best friend this past may.:( So I checked out the Drathaar web page and saw that one of the listed kennels is right around the corner from my house. So I gave the fellow a call and away we went! He has a small kennel with only two dogs right now, but he let us check it out and he brought out his male, Dutch. Well to say that Dutch likes to retreive would be an understatement! I have never seen a dog go harder for dumbie in my life. I had my two boys with me and Dutch was all over them too playing and licking faces and the whole bit. This is one breed I will seriously consider. :D

That is because yellow Labs are the king.

Can you imagine hunting with a poodle?? I know, they originally were bred for it.

I live in redneck country, I would be a laughing stock. AGAIN
 
You probably have a better chance at getting a good, easy to train Lab than any any other Retriever breed. Retrievers were bred for waterfowling, and their natural instincts are a significant plus. As a rule of thumb. I've found the Golden's to be the easiest going and quite trainable. That beautiful coat is a handful to maintain after a day in the loon**** marshes. Chessies are real retrievn' machines, but most of us don't get a chance to use them to their full potential. Labs seem to be the happy compromise. And despite all the Lab-owners B.S. ... it doesn't really matter what colour ( or as they say, Black, Yellow or "Taint" ... [chocolate - taint black, taint yellow ! ] ) If you look at the last 70 years or so of AKC, CKC records, you'll find more black lab
FTCH & AFTCH's than any other.

By all means, go to a reputable breeder, one where you can watch & observe both sire & dam, and where references are readilly available. Back-yard breeders charge the same as reputable breeders who are in it as a business, and just because you have a registered sire & dam, doesn't make you a "breeder" ... so look for one with a long, established, & reputable history, with loats of satisfied customers.
