I have a buddy who has brought back ammo from the states many times.I also know people who have ordered ammo and had it sent to them WITHOUT import export BS because they were under the maximum allowence termed under import laws.
My question is do you need a licence to order ammo from the US?

You can meet the Canadian import regulations,but unless you have an export permit from the US authorities,you are still violation of the US export laws which is a federal crime.

If you don't have the proper "BS" US export permits, and are caught by a US EXPORT border check (and they are becoming much more common) then not having a PAL is going to be the least of your worries. Canada doesn't care. The US takes security very seriously. Don't confuse the two countries.

Also, in order to buy or possess ammo in the US as a NIA (Non Immigrant Alien) you require a hunting licence from any US State. If you don't, it is another Federal offence.

At the VERY LEAST you will be banned from entering the US for a very long time........ and that will include being put on their no fly list. (This has happened to a person or their friend, that posted here about a year ago. They had a few items in a "grey" area seized, and they were released with no other fines or problems etc. Next time the person tried to enter the US, he found he was permanently banned from entering the US.)

Also, "ordering" ammo from the US is also going to be almost impossible. The exporters doing it without permits (if there are any left) face huge fines and if they are a small operation, it will put them out of business. Also ammo shipped by post WILL be seized at the border by Canada Post because they don't allow any live or even inert ammo.


Most of the above "rules" have come into effect the last 2 to 6 years. Besides, right now, ammo really isn't much cheaper in the US than here.

If you're buddy is a dual citizen, then it is legal as long as it is under 1000rnds and for personal use. No export licence required in that case.
 
I am too. We are the truly lucky ones ;)

ITAR exemption, I forget the section. But it is in the legalese thread on bringing in stuff from the states.
