Ok so I just found out that I need a front and rear sight on my shotgun for work instead of the bead front sight. Now I'm hoping to cut costs down with a front sight that just screws into the hold the bead is in rather than have to pay a gunsmith to solder on a front sight, but most front sights that screw in are just to replace the bead and not tall enough to be used with a rear sight. As for the rear sight is there something that can be screwed on where the top rail would go?

Mossberg does make a 590 barrel with 3-dot sights.

You should try to find one for your gun.

A mossberg rear ghost ring should just mount on top using the scope mount holes, maybe you could post a want to trade in the E.E.
Your plain bead barrel for someone else's ghost ring setup?

A cheap front sight option would be the XS Banded sight that goes over the bead and clamps to the barrel.

I like that idea! Easy to install and easy to remove. Then I could just but one of those rails that have a built in ghost ring. Is that something I have to order from the US or is there a supporting dealer that sells them?

EDIT:

After looking everywhere it seems these sights are backordered! Not cheap but an easy solution that wouldn't have to involve a gunsmith.

UTG makes this ugly but stupidly cheap option for $30

Then just use a standard Mossberg rail and a rear sight to go onto that rail.

There is also this option as well, an ATI heatshield that has built in "ghost ring" sights.

How about a rail ($15 on amazon) and an inexpensive reflex sight? I did have a 590A1 with ghost rings and it was excellent.

The best 3 dot sights I've seen are on my Fabarm shotgun.

I have an 18" 590A1 with ghost ring sights that I would like to trade for a bead sight. I would do an even trade for another 18" barrel

I have to have "iron sights" according to work standards even though any shot I might take would be around the 25 yard mark

Cheap as in no silver solder or drilling and taping..... :) I ordered some from Brownells a couple years ago, I'd start with them.

$81 US, not as cheap as I remembered,

They also have the Mossberg front and rear kit for $89 US, you could epoxy on the sight base with a good automotive body glue if you don't want to braze or solder it.
What length barrel do you have? There are people that prefer the bead and might want to trade barrels.

Well it seems like this is the easiest solution although $166 USD :D

Thanks, I'll probably order the set.

Well nevermind, the one you linked was for a remington and the mossberg ones are on back order.... :D

I might be completely wrong here but are you sure your field manual doesn't simply mean iron sight as opposed to a scope; to make help you make your case for wildlife self-defence, in wich case the bead sight is good. I just got the same 590A1 mariner flex as you (from the other thread) for work as well and beads are standard for us. Perhaps originally, whoever wrote that manual just put all sights made of iron in the same bucket and called it iron sights and you guys just assume they knew what they were talking about? if not good luck and tell us what you go for in the end.

The company we will be working for stated our shotguns must have "front and rear sights", thus iron or ghost rings. We tried to argue that the distances we would legally be allowed to shoot a bear (sub 50 yards), rear sights aren't going to matter but the rules are the rules. Last year the company we worked for didn't care if the gun had a rear sight.

My issue is that the local gunsmiths have a 2-3 month waiting list, thus trying to find sights that I could just screw/clamp on ("welding" a front sight on is currently not feasible). If I could just find a rear ghost ring that would allow me to use my front bead that would work. But most are too tall and need a tall front sight (the mossberg rear ghost ring is too tall). The one I did find was called a "Williams Ace in The Hole Tactical" but there is a 2 month waiting list for them from Williams due to being a new product for 2016. The normal Ace in the Hole williams sight is available but it's a peep sight and I don't like peeps for quick targeting.

Hmmm, i see... interesting problem... apart from some potential solutions already mentioned, maybe one of the 'True Glow' kit would work or would be relativly easy to make one work? (As a temporary non destructive solution)

The XS banded tritium front sight's are in stock.
For the Rear you should just use a standard Mossberg ghost ring.... unfortunately through brownell's they only sell them as a kit with the front (other link)
You could save some money and just use the mossberg set front and rear with metal epoxy to mount the front sight.

Maybe try contacting http://tacord.com/ he does a lot of shotgun work and probably has mossberg ghostring's in his parts box.......

The "Ace in the Hole" is also in stock at Brownells so you could get a banded front XS sight and the Ace rail for the rear as a third option.
