Yep,
I couldn't justify it until I broke my cheap 40$/Remington muffs last weekend. I hated them anyway, I had to wear plugs under them so the noise would be bareable. I don't really know how much I am willing to spend but I want quality stuff that will last.
What do you have how much does it cost and where should I buy? Tks.

Peltor Tac 6S are good. They let you hear what's going on around the range, and cut out the loud noises. They're about $110 at TSE.

I just use earplugs, rated at 33db. I have always found them adequate, even for magnums and with my AR 15. That's if you insert them properly. I have not found an earmuff that performs better. I can also hear people talking pretty well and have conversations with them in.

Hi Matt,
Tks for the reply, but I've heard that muffs are important because noise will also get to you by the surrounding area of your ear..... BTW I think you're the best photographer in the forum. (also in other forums) Keep the good work coming!

Hey thanks. :) I've heard about the issue of the surrounding bone area transmitting sound, but I haven't noticed any problems myself.

plugs dont help from hearing loss along the mastic bone... the best is plugs a and muffs for loud indoor stuff..

Outdoors muffs are good.

Check out Comtac/Swatac Peltors

I got the Pro Ears Dimension Plus Muffs. They are top of the line electronic muffs. They have the highest dB rating of any electronic muffs that I could find, 33dB. They say the electronics activate faster than any others as well. I don't know for sure but I can't tell when they activate. There are no clicks or weird sounds at all. I find that regular muffs make me feel stuffed up and close. But with these, I don't know I'm wearing them. The sound is also very natural. When I wear ear plugs the sounds that do reach the ear are blunted and unnatural sounding. With the the Pro Ears all sounds sound natural. Little quiet sounds are perfectly amplified and sound normal. Very loud sounds are just quieter, still natural sounding just not loud. They are amazing muffs. I haven't tried any other electronic muffs so I can't compare the sound quality. I got them because of the 33dB reduction rating and the speed of the electronics and I can't be happier.

I have all kinds of muffs, but when I shoot outside I only use ear plugs.
Indoor shooting, both ear plugs and ear muffs.

I have the peltor swat tacs and they rule...although I do need to find someone that deals inmicrophone covers and I would like a rebuild kit for mine.... starting to get sweaty and stinky :)

If you are talking non-amplified muffs with maximum comfort and maximum attenuation, for the money, you can't beat the Ultimate 10.

Peltor ProTac.... They aren't overkill like the ComTac/SwatTac, but they are a world above the Tac 6s and Tac 7s.

Muffs

I started using these myself a couple of weeks ago when I noticed my $300 Peltors were getting real ratty. I didn't expect I'd like them (compared to what I'd been used to for the last dozen years), but after wearing them a couple times all day instructing and shooting, I'm keeping this set. AND I'm not going to order a replacement pair of Peltors :) They're comfortable, keep nasty sounds out, and you can hear conversations. I found if you turn them all the way up, they get tinny sounding, but turned down to 80% or so (or with a well-used battery), they sound fine. AND they're $40!!!

Bulk purchase! These electronic muffs are a fantastic buy for the money - not as good as my $300 Peltors (these ones shut off the loud noises for a little longer, but blank out the shots very well indeed). Made in Italy, these are very comfortable, too. Two AA batteries needed. Not happy, return for full refund less shipping :) $40 per pair !!

Tax and shipping (from $8 to $12 to most of Canada) extra.

Thanks for looking!
