Need help. 1300 winchester

My dad has an older model 1300 say 20 to 25 years old. It has seen a lot of shooting and a lot of sal####er. Over all the condition is pretty decent.
He loves that old thing more than any other shotgun he has used.
Problem is now when you fire a round and go to load a second the shell falls out on the ground. Basically rendering the gun as a single shot.
Any help or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated

The cartridge stops (part of the trigger group assembly) are worn or bent a little. There are some good U toob vids on how to fix this 99% of the time.

It seems like a timing issue. The loading gate opens up sooner than it should making the shell fall out underneath

Everything is attached to the trigger group. Pull it and look for high wear spots. Check the plastic mag tube throat. Those have been rumored to sometimes break.
