Need Help:1911 shooting low, waaaaay too low.

You divide how far she's off POA in inches trough the target distance, also in inches and multiply that with your sight radius (distance from front to rear sight)in inches...in my case 14"/540" x 6" = 0.155554"

Good info to know, thanks!

FORS is the key for sight adjustment - Front-> Opposite, Rear -> Same. So shooting low you need either a higher front, or a lower rear. Seems you were suggesting lowering the front which would be the wrong way to go.

I think FORS is only for side to side adjustments. If you raise the front sight you lower the front of the barrel when your sights are aligned and shoot lower.

Edit: Warfarin beat me to it...

If your low you need a lower front site as that changes your point of impact UP. Lowering FS - > POI up. Higher FS -> POI down. Imagine your front sights aligning with the back sights from the side and not behind the gun. If you lowered your front sites you have to raise the muzzle of he firearm to now meet the notches of your rear site.

+1. It's obvious when you think about leveling the sights.

I would suggest getting at least one other shooter to try the gun before doing anything.
That way you can determine if it is the gun or the way that you shoot it.

I had Commanders that all shot Low & Left."nature of the beast"
A lot of the govt models with the small military sights I owned shot low. The front sight is so tiny, it leaves nothing to file down ! Changing sites is a Good option..and you might as well put adjustable ones on.
This latest batch of Enhanced 45"s with the 5 inch barrel and fiber optic front sight and Sig style rear sight are TAC DRIVERS. I have gotten 1 inch groups ! The triggers are Crisp with zero creep. Very impressed .NOTE....the extractors In this same bunch don't work !! They don't have enough "arch" . I have repaired 4 of them already..easy fix.

Someone had to say it. ;)

Seriously though, OP just because your barrel was manufactured straight does not mean your barrel is sitting straight in the slide when it's installed. I'd look at possibly the slide being out of spec.

Guess I owe you a beer. Changed slide (and slide only) from my other norc...ta-daa,all holes in the black. Need to get a slide now.

... 14 inches below POA at that distance. That is with Wolf 230 LRN (875fps).
... upper scale reload 200 fmj ...18" low
... 200 lead SWC "squib" reload (695fps),still 12" low.

This sounds like a flinch to me. The lighter load seems to have a higher impact than the load with more recoil.

~ Check the letoff, as the sear releases from the hammer.
~ Install and set a trigger with an overtravel adjustment.
