I'm looking to build a rifle in 375 RUM or 416 Rem. Something that could really thump out to 500-600 yards. Will be building it off a Savage action and using it as a single shot. So COAL really doesn't matter. 350 grain for the 375 rum, 450 for the 416 rem. Looking for any help on info for loads barrel lengths or suggestions on the build. Thanks

375 RUM sounds like fun with a 350 grainer but, if it were me, I might shy away from a 416 rem for a couple reasons. First being the 416 Rem Mag is pushing 400gr bullets at about 2400 fps along side with the 416 rigby and the like. I don't think you would really be taking advantage of a high BC bullet like the hornady 450gr BTHP with probably around 2200 fps. Second reason being Hornady's website says the .416 450 grain HPBT Match bullet is "temporarily suspended".... With the shortages of components at the moment I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that. Plus, I've never seen that bullet for sale in a store or online, have you?
If you're going to expect a single shot anyway, I would look for a Precision Target Action like the ones found on the Savage model 12 F/TR. You can buy the action only for about $550. Includes everything except the barrel and the stock. As far as barrel length and twist... I have no idea. You'll have to enlist the help of some others on here smarter than myself.

Thanks for your input I was leaning toward the 375. There's lots of guys pushing 350-385 grain in the 2900-2600 fps range so they say. I've read 400grain 416 up past 2650fps by seating the bullet out to get more case capacity for slower powders. There is some other company's making 416 higher BC bullets. I'll have to check availability. Also for anyone reading this I know everything on the Internet is got to be true right. I'll be working up loads slowly. I like my face.
Everything about big bores is expensive. There are other high BC 416 bullet manufacturers but you're getting into custom lathe turned solids that are quite expensive AND hard to find. At least with the 375, the Matchkings can probably be ordered in somewhat reliably(although I have not seen them on a shelf anywhere in Canada yet).
I had a 375 Rum built on a rem 700 action with a 28" med/ heavy barrel. Amazing cartridge the extra barrel length will help you out. 350 smk are almost impossible to get in Canada right now though. Newest load I have been trying is 250 gmx well over 3000 fps and great expansion.
