I've done alot research on the 9mm with 147 gr and Titegroup but my numbers are nowhere near what I've read.

My equipment:

- Shooting Chrony (placed about 5 ft. from the muzzle of my M&P9)
- M&P9
- Mixed brass
- Federal 100 primers
- Titegroup (digital scale to confirm powder charge)
- Frontier 9mm 147gr. CMJ FN
- OAL is 1.130" (+/- 0.010")with a digital caliper
- No crimp, enought just to eliminated the belled mouth.

Results (5 shot average):
- 3.2gr @ 423 fps average
- 3.3gr @ 440 fps average
- 3.4gr @ 468 fps average
- 3.5gr @ 481 fps average
- 3.6gr @ 620 fps average

I want to a PF of 140 (up coming L3 match) which means I have to push 950 fps and no less the 900 fps MAX.

What do you suggest to help bump up the velocity... more powder (is it safe at current OAL) and/or shorten the OAL to 1.100" - 1.120".

Thanks for the help, have 2 weekends left to test my next batch of reloads.

Something is wrong.

Your scales might be wrong and powder charges are light.

But the chrony seems very close to muzzle. I use 10 feet for a pistol, 15 to 20 feet for a rifle. Muzzle blast can give bad readings.

you say no crimp but you need a crimp

using the correct crimp will increase the velocity and lower ES and SD 90% of the time
and make clean up easer and less jams with a higher round count

over crimp is bad as well and cause its own problems

Forgot to mention that the loads listed above do cycle the slide with no FTF or FTE or stove pipe. The brass is falling about 2 - 3 feet at my 4 - 5 o-clock.

Could very well be that the chrony at 5 - 6ft is too close and the muzzle blast is causing the wrong readings.

ES: Extreme Spread (ES) (e.g. 7 fps over 10 shots)
SD: Standard Deviation (SD) (e.g. 3 fps over 10 shots)
FTF: Failure to Feed
FTE: Failure to Eject

Yup, turns out that the chrony was too close. This time I put it out to 12ft and here are my results:

Frontier 147gr CMJ FN - 7rds:

- 3.4gr @ 889fps average = 131 PF
- 3.7gr @ 951fps average = 140 PF
- 3.9gr @ 971fps average = 143 PF

Wolf 124gr TMJ RN - 5rds:

- Summer 2009 Batch: 1065fps average = 132 PF
- Early Spring 2010 Batch: 1066fps average = 132 PF

Thanks for all your help.

Roc,

I use the same bullets and load 3.3gr of Titegroup (850fps avg) with an OAL of 1.125" and a Lee factory crimp. This works fine in my Sig, but I had some feeding problems with them in my M&P9. I'm positive they're too long.
What's the cartridge overall length for your 147 CMJ rounds?

Thanks.

I did 1.130" +/-0.005"

I had no feeding problems with mine. IIRC from my measurements the OAL can be out to 1.150" before the 147 CMJ FN touches the lands and still fit the mag

Most interesting. I've loaded Titegroup behind 124gr cast bullets...the exact charge escapes me at the moment, but I think it is in the neighbourhood of 3.6 grains...it came straight out of the Lee Manual. At any rate, it fails to cycle the action in both my Glock and my M&P.

I just tested a few rounds a couple of weeks ago with 125gr lead rn.
3.8gr titegroup average velocity of four shots 1081fps 135pf

4.0gr titegroup " " 1121fps 140pf

6.0gr bluedot " " 1054 fps 131pf

All loads cycle 100% with no issue, albeit the bluedot loads seem to have more thump to them.Maybe you need a little more powder or a lighter spring?
