I need some advice on buying a 22lr semi. My birthday is coming and I want a 22lr to have some fun, budget around $500.00

Usage for the 22
Practice cheap ipsc metal targets and holster usage
Cheap gun for my wife to shoot and pinker with (her wrist gets soar with a 9mm after 50 rounds)

Just plain cheap to shoot
Must be able to find a holster for it and cheap mags would be a plus

I have broke it down to the following choices
Walther p22 target
S&W 22A
Beretta u22
Sig Mosoquito sport

Looking for some good feeds back please, or if there are any other models please let me know (remember must fit a holster)

i just got the beretta for 502 tax in and i'm very happy with it- sure i take lots of ribbing about my "space gun" but the thing is accurate as all get out, esp with a reflex sight on it- and i've got 2 other ss's besides- i think the bereta is going to be my go-to 22 pistol-and as far as stripping to clean- well. it's beretta simple

ruger 22/45 - cheap and accurate

+1. The 4-1/2" bull barrel version should be very close to a 1911 in weight and balance. I have a 5-1/2" bull barrel model and it is a bit different than my NP-29 in feel and how it balances. Any version of the Ruger, Mk. I, II, III or the 22/45 is a great pistol.

I'd recommend the Browning Buck Mark but if you want to choose between those four, either the S&W or Beretta. The SIG tends to be a jammomatic unless you baby it with expensive ammo and the Walther just a POS in general.

Edit: if you have the money go for a SIG P226 in .22LR, 'tis a ###y plinker.

Not sure about P22 but the you can get the Sig Mosquito Sport PACKAGE and that will include a leather holster. Check out Ellwood Epps website $564 plus the taxes but this includes everything. Extra magazines are readily available as well.

the ruger target pistal are in that price range I just dont like there look because I personaly thing they are ugly..

The ruger MK serious are a real PITA to take part and clean. Plus the OP wants a pistol that will fit in a holster that is readily available.

x2 on this ^^^^^ but not necessarily expensive ammo. It just may be afew flavors the Mosquito likes.

I have the P226 Classic 22LR and love it. She eats everything I feed her even subsonics.

if you go Sig then visit sigforum.com for lots of info.

I just bought a nice leather holster for my MKII.
Once you know how to take apart they are very easy.

The taking apart is easy, it's reassemmbling that is a #####! But only for the very 1st time. LOL

My vote goes with MkI, II, or III, all very good and will last for generations.
