need help buying first 9mm handgun

I dont recall the baby eagle being mentioned..I have one(only pistol:() in 9mm and i paid under 800 for it..its a VERY solid gun ..all metal with a nice heft to it and i find it to fit my smallish hands..accuracy is also very good and the weight of the gun soaks up most of the recoil
 
The springfield XD 9 is pretty nice, I have one and love it. My brother has a CZ 75 and he is really happy with it. Have a look around and see what fits you the best.
 
No problems with Glocks

I have 3 Glocks ,a G17 Gen3.5, a G22 Gen3.5 and my original older G22 Gen2. Have done lots of shooting with all 3 pistols with no problems to date. Also have an S&W 4006 in .40 which is also an excellent pistol. Advise from fellow shooters is an awesome source but the final decision should be yours based on what you feel the most comfortable and confident with.

Well I guess it's just us women but the other female members in our club have changed from 9mm's to .40's and I guess it just feels right because accuracy has gone way up in our experience.

Or is it maybe that 9mm ammunition is just cheaper to purchase for you guys?

You would think that 9mm would me slightly more accurate due to less recoil. If you consider grip, one would need a more consistent grip with a higher calibre as opposed to a lesser calibre. On the other hand, I believe the 40S&W had a flatter trajectory (more optimal round). I guess the best answer is "it depends on what type of shooting you're doing"!
 
The recoil cycle of 9mm's is sharper due to the higher pressures that are found in typical 9mm loads and the lighter bullets. Most 40's use a heavier bullet and more sustained pressure that pushes back rather than kicks back, it can be easier to handle (depending on load).

Yeah, maybe it's "just you women". I betcha if you switched to .500S&W, you accuracy would have gone even further up.

Perhaps they're just shooting more, and becoming more accurate shooters. That's all fine and dandy - but do you have anything that indicates that the .40 cartridge is more accurate by design?
 
I recently bought a CZ-75 SP-01. Awesome gun. Super accurate, comes standard with night sights, piccatinny rail. Fits the hand like a glove. You'll never go wrong with any CZ product.
 
I find that I shoot .45 ACP the most accurate for some reason. I do ok with 9mm, but .40 leaves me a bit wanting usually. Hard to say though, since I haven't shot all the same pistols in all 3 calibers, but I have shot a glock in 9mm and 45 and I do better with the 45. Not wild about the cost of .45 though :(
 
I have found the same thing. I have shot my dad's S&W 4006 a lot as well as our friends G22. Having shot a G17, and a BHP just recently, I found them a lot snappier than the other guns in .40S&W and it seemed to take longer to realign the sights quickly after each shot due to the jerky muzzle flip. My accuracy was a lot better with the .40's as well (same with .45). I couldn't hit jack with the G17. I think I handle the 'recoil pattern' as someone called it, of the .40 better than the 9mm. I guess I find the .40 right in between the harsh snap of 9mm, and the gentle push of .45.

Anyone else find this? Maybe I need to shoot more 9mm....

Have you looked at the S&W M&P9? I have three of them (service, compact and the new Pro competition model) and think they are far and away superior to my Glocks when it comes to ergonomics, handling, trigger and sights.

That being said I shoot a Para 18.9LDA in USPSA's Production division and LOVE it!

And don't let anyone tell you th 9mm Para isn't a great cartridge!
