need help determaning some markings

i have just bougth a marlin model 1936 30-30 and it has some markings on the stock and the for stock. it is a C with a arrow in the middle and has a number of G49/129 on the other side od the stock. could someone please tell me what they mean?

Yes, it sounds like it's a PCMR (Pacific Coast Militia Ranger) issue rifle. Although most of the .30-30's that were issued to the PCMR members were 94 Winchester carbines there were also a few Winchester 64's and Marlin model 36's issued as well. They are fairly scarce and usually have a slightly higher value than a similar 94 PCMR marked carbine. There should be the Canadian military broad arrow within a capital "C" stamped on the buttstock, the action, and the forend, usually on the left side of the gun. Later in the war the PCMR were also issued some P14's, P17's, Stens, and a few Brens.
