need help fast!!!!

so i shot a nice buck with my 16g. with no. 1 buck

it was a 20-25 yard shot, i got him i know i did but he was bedded, he got up did the kick and all but.... no blood!!

is it possible the pellets didn't go through and through?! now everything is going through my head, where the F is this buck, is it possible that i wont find blood right away, i have no clue Ive never had this happen to me. now the tracks this buck left behind seems to me as what an injured deer would leave and crashing into trees, i even found a chunk of hair!(like 40 yards from where i shot him)

can someone pls tell me if i would be wasting my time going back tomorrow morning to look for him?!?!
what should i look for?
how long should i look?

i know you old farts(no offense) on here have my answers, plz help me!

Not good if your in Ontario, I beleive the regulations state 00,000 buckshot anything smaller is a no-no.

x2 on slugs.

I had enough crappy experiences with OO buck out of a 12 gauge, that I won't even look at the stuff anymore.

Maybe OK for 10-15 yards, but past that... Not for me, thanks.

For ####s and giggles, take a couple cardboard boxes out and pattern the stuff at about the range you shot the deer. That'll give you a real good idea what the odds are of putting your deer down are.

Single-ought? Good for coyotes at close range. Seems a bit lightweight for deer.

Go and search your heart out...I spent over 4 hours looking for a moose we shot in Northern Ontario with a .338...
Lets face it guys, Buckshot or .338, if no direct heart or lung shot at a good range; then you could be walking...Don't give up though...Walk in four directions like sections of a half cut orange or fan-like pattern. Even "flag it" if you want a clear pattern to see. But please search for it...You may be rewarded!

no luck, i got help from a local hunter with a dog, still came up empty.... better luck next year!

I would say you missed..or got him with one or 2 pellets definately not in the vitals..Take the advice form other hunters and try some slugs for next year, don't forget to practice.

well i can tell you two things, if that deer is dead its no good to me(hotter day today) from now on the shotgun stays home during the two weeks of rifle season, and i dont even know why i took the 16 and had a 45/70 in the truck....f*ck that was the worse thing ive dont in a long time! anyways guys thanks alot for the support and help, hopefully i can take one with the crossbow, ive got lots of time left, maybe the wife will let me out on xmas day and santa will get me one!

That sucks. Too bad. Around here if you leave a deer overnight the coyotes will get it, and there won't be hardly anything left the next day!
If you hunt long enough, then something like this is bound to happen. Either to you, or a member of your party. It sucks, but all you can do is all you can do. So now you'll make precautions not to let it happen again, and learning from it is progress.
Chin up! You'll get'em next time!
