I'm looking for a new shotgun. I stumbled across a great deal on shotgun shells and bough 500 rounds at 4.97 per box of 25. And now that I have all this ammunition I realize that I only have a split barrel shot gun and I am in need of a shotgun with the ablility to burn through this cheap ammo faster. I have never been a huge shotgun guy but I'm thinking about getting into shooting a shotgun alot more.

so I'm looking for a cheap starter shotgun that is chambered in 2 3/4" and 3"
I'm looking for a shot gun that would cost less that $400. If i end up really getting into shotguns I would definately then go buy an expensive shotgun. but for now if I don't end up liking shotgun shooting i would only be out 300 bucks.

Note: if a choice had to be made between 2 3/4" and 3" chamber size it would have to be 2 3/4 cause I have around 700 shells in 2 3/4

and just incase anyone wanted to know where I got the cheap ammo was in rockglen saskatchewan at the coop. They were winchester super X lead shot with many shot sizes to choose from and they were all in 2 3/4 . The box is marked as normally being 12.99 and on sale for 4.97 per box of 25. I'm unsure of how much they ad left but for sure I saw 4 cases left when i was there last week. A phone call ahead might save some dissapointment if someone was interested

For a pretty decent price a Mossberg 535ATS 3 barrel combo can be just what your looking for. Lots of different uses and will keep you happy for years to come.

Pretty much any shotgun will do what you want to do. Screw-in chokes are nice but not mandatory. Look around your area in the buy & sell and I'm sure you can find a nice pump gun for a couple hundred bucks, or a good used semi for $300.

Also consider this:

This versatile shotgun features two barrels for a number of uses from hunting to security detail. Barrels included are 28” vent rib with fixed modified choke and an 18 ½” smoothbore barrel with fixed cylinder choke and front bead sight. The black synthetic stock features rubber recoil pad with checkering for improved handling. 12 gauge, 3” chamber.

Cat. No. 440173

Price: $ 249.99

Spend a little more and get a Biakal MP153.............love mine, it feeds
anything. Saskatoon gunsmth shoppee still has one.

A 3 inch chamber will handle 2 3/4 shells but not the reverse. I'd look for a 3 inch then you have the option of using both lengths of ammo in the future.

I'm new to shotguns and if this is true it will be thats the best information I've heard all week. looking for a shotgun in 2 3/4" chamber size was limiting my options.

pump or semi? +1 for grizzly if pump. +1 for Baikal if semi

and yes it's true about the chambering, 3in will take 2.75, 3.5 willl take all three lengths, but a 2.75 will only take 2.75

Find a good real shotgun. One that fits you and you feel comfortable with. As stated the 870 is a true tested shotgun with good accessories. I myself prefer Browning BPS's , but hey not everyone else is perfect :)
