In my own mind
Hey guys/gals,

Sorry for repeating myself with another thread but ckc123 informed me that this was the place for my question.

A real Newbie who needs help for my 1st gun. I'm going to do my Black badge and was wondering what calibre I should start off with! I was looking at the 9mm or 40. I heard you have the IPSC Production and Standard. I would like a reliable, bang for buck and a all around gun.

As for models, I was told in the 9 to pick up a Tupperware and he laughed. I didn't get the joke till someone explained it to me.:D I would really go more for a 40. I was told to go with one made out of steel that is Double Stacked, Bull barrel and Ambi safety with atleast 5 to 10 mags and full rig. I looked at a few and after reading some Forums, I realized that the Tanfoglio or STI are the ones. I know they are priceyyyy but I'm not going to buy 3 or 4 to find out that I should of went with these from the beginning.

Could you guys help me out on this issue?:runaway: Which gun (new/used), model with what type of rig and why? Price, I'm willing to go to about $2000+/-.

Thanks a lot

I say Tanfoglio. Lots of gun for the money there, but I am biased.
Try before you buy. Any STI owner out there will let you test fire their guns, as will any Tanfo owner. See what suits you and buy that. You're not considering anything crappy anyway, so whatever you choose at this point (from your specified short list) will serve you well.

I think you are going to have to slip past your $2k Budget if you want a STI or Tan as well as all the gear.

Looking at a Tanfoglio (my fav)..just the gun will run you that much.

First IPSC gun

I'd suggest to contact some guys from your shooting club, range, and try some guns and listen to some local advice. I'd suggest Glock, CZ, SIG and HK for Production Division, in 9mm because it's cheaper so you can practice more...
Later you can compete with the guys shooting .40 S&W in Standard...
Shoot straight...

Like I said in the other thread, production is a great place to start. The guns are often cheaper, the ammo less expensive. The sport is the same, and you'll quickly figure out where, if anywhere, you want to go from there.

You've been steered towards the Glock, SA XD, S&W M&P, and Grand Power K100. All of them will serve you well, and all are fairly priced.

My pick would be the K100 because of the trigger and feel of the grip, but your mileage may vary

Id hate to spend $2,000 and find out i hate the gun that be a real :kickInTheNuts::eek:

That would be unlikely, as they are all good choices. Preferences being what they are though, get out there and try a few out. Realize as well that over time, as you acquire skills and experience, your tastes may (probably will) change. Or you may just get bored and want to shoot something new.

If you are anywhere near the GTA there are tons of guys around here who shoot just about every type of gun you can name. Post a request and I'm sure several will step up to help you out.

I'd let you try mine, but you don't want to get addicted to Open guns this early in the game...trust me.

Your right Stormbringer. I checked with some dealers and the Tanfoglio Limited Custom in a 40 goes around $1637 + $60 for the additional mags (5 extra). I found the web site for the CR gear and their WSM II Rig is $349. It's going to hit high but I'll try one 1st before I buy.
Does anyone have a Tanfoglio LC For Sale?

Thanks relliott and I'll do that. I'll try some out this week. Hey you never know, I might just drop buy the GTA but before I'll post a request. Maybe I'll come down for a IPSC match. Most likely Production minor. My friend wants me to pick up his Springfield 9mm.
Thanks again

Thanks Robert (Katana 1127). My friend said the samething. Start in Production and shoot shoot and shoot some more. Then go to Standard or even Open. Besides he wants me to buy his Springfield.
