Personally, given the fact that some Norinco commercial stuff as late as 2018 claimed to be non-corrosive but SOME of it was, I would be leery of any older PRC/Norinco manufactured ammo and automatically presume it is corrosive. I would even go so far as to say it doesn't matter if it's from a spam can or from a factory box.

While the nail test may show that THAT round is corrosive (or not), the amount of inconsistency in the earlier PRC/Norinco rounds would make it difficult to conclusively and comfortably believe that all other rounds of that 2001 years were ok. The 2018 311 18 rounds are a prime example of that. That said, the 311-19 and 311-20 red box rounds have all proven to be non-corrosive.

I don't understand the obsession with corrosive vs non- corrosive.

Don't you clean your guns after shooting?

No. No i don't. Some might get a wipe down after a few hundred rounds, but barrels don't get cleaned unless it gets rained in or accuracy starts to drop off. And anything that shoots 7.62x39 isn't going to be that accurate anyway. Just the nature of the rifles that it's chambered in. If I was a benchrest or long-range shooter, then I might have a different answer for you. But for your average blaster or hunting rifle, no, they don't get cleaned that often. So, knowing exactly what I'm putting down the pipe matters to me. YMMV.

I cleaned my SKS once a year, the only rust I ever saw was on the gas tube because it was run dry, after starting to oil it never saw rust again.
