hello i just purchased a side by side and the only info i can find on it is the following

Wallace England on the side of the receiver

on the bottom of the barrel is the number 14 with and x beside it

any help would be greatly accepted

Thanks

Is it a breech or muzzle loader? Measure the bore please. If it's around .69 and smothbore that would make it a 14 gauge shotgun. 14 Gauge guns were somewhat less common in later years so it could be a premium gun.

Without photos, we are guessing wildly. My guess is that it is a percussion shotgun, probably made in Birmingham. The 14 is the bore of the barrel (14 guage) While 12 guage cartridge guns were often chambered for 12 guage shells but bored to 13 guage at the breach and 15 at the muzzle, I don't recall seeing a cartridge 12 guage bored to 14 only. The X sounds like a british proof mark and is actually crossed maces and should have a small crown above it

Had a look in some files and came up with the manufacturer. Apparently it was W. Wallace and was located at Wigton , Cumberland , England about 1900. It should be a percussion type shotgun. Do not fire untill fully checked out. You may unspin those fine spun barrels:redface:
