Hey all!

I need help identifying these stamps on a 1902 Mauser M96, please refer to the images. What ever you can tell me about the markings/stamps, would be much appreciated.

I bought this Mauser from a reputable distributor in Canada and it had been crated for a awhile I suspect. It was jam packed with cosmoline and it took me more than a couple of hours to clean. The cleaning revealed all matching numbers, crowns and these additional stamps/markings that I cant identify.

Thank you.

Can't help with your first picture. Second picture - Most all Swedes have two initials preceding the serial number. See the book, "Crown Jewels The Mauser of Sweden" by Dana Jones. Serial No. 116520 was one of 23,942 Gevar m/96 (Long Rifle) made that year in 1902 - so made in Sweden, not in Germany. Page 147. G.F. is for Gustaf Fredenberg, who was the Besiktningofficer (Inspection Officer) at Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori from May, 1894 to May, 1896, and again from May 1897 to December, 1902. Page 149.

Regarding your first picture - same book, page 155 - shows a picture with this caption - "Underside close-up of a rifle receiver, showing letter and number stamps often found. These were applied by training "committees" or apprentices, each of whom had their own unique stamp, to indicate inspection at certain points in the manufacturing process."
