J.C. Higgins was a house brand, Stateside. Sears(and other store chains) had firearms made for them by several U.S. firearm manufacturers and the J.C. Higgins name put on. Six U.S. firearms makers made J.C. Higgins branded firearms.
You need to find out what company actually made the rifle and what their model number is/was. Then you can get the parts. I'm not seeing a J.C. Higgins Model 99(or a Sears Model 99) on Gunparts' 'Cross Reference' list though. All the lists I've seen on-line are the same too.

I'm seeing a J.C. Higgins Model 36. No 583.74, but there is a 583.7. The Model 36 is a High Standard Model 34. The 583.7 is a High Standard Model 10. It's not a Model 10 or a 583.7. They're shotguns.
However, Gunparts is listing parts, firing pins included, for a J.C. Higgins Model 31. There are two types. One with the retaining pin going in left to right, the other top to bottom. $22US for the former, $15.30US for the latter. Just look at the bolt for where the retaining pin is.
No cartridge lifters but they do have the spring. Shouldn't be any fuss getting them either. Call Epp's too.
Go here. Add the W's. .e-gunparts.com/products.asp?chrMasterModel=0780z31&MC=

camk, yes there are wood pannels over the receiver coming from the forend.
i have used the gun a long time ago. put swome CCI stingers through it.
and broke the firing pin. Sunray the bolt is missing so not sure which one but the parts are cheap enough to buy both to check. thxs cdn1

I have a model 29 here that is missing the spring and the bolt handle but I bekieve the firing pin is intact
pm me if you want it for a parts gun and we will talk:)

You can get parts for the JC Higgins 30 from Gun Parts Corp. in the US, I have a Model 29, 30 and 31 and that is the only place where I have ever found parts.

The firing pin for a Model 29 and 30 are the same, the Model 31 can also use the same pin depending on the orientation of the firing pin retaining pin.
There were two different types of extractors, a flat and a claw type. It's easy to tell which one by the size of the extractor cutout on the bolt and the recess in the breech face.

If yours is a Model 30 it should have an action bar on the left side of the receiver to cycle the bolt. The Model 29 and 31 use a handle on the bolt itself.

Thank you for all the help guys but just received a PM from the man that I took the gun to to have repaired many many years ago. He may still have the original part. WOW this is a great site. Thanks again Cdn1
