So I purchased the RIA 10/22 clone about a week ago, and finally got it out to the range (dang kids). When I was struck with a series of misfortunes...

First off, I was having disgustingly frustrating ejection problems. Pull the trigger, *bap*, pull trigger click... Turn the firearm over, there's a spent piece of brass wedged in the port... Happened literally every 1... 2... 4 rounds... Quickly ran to my local CT, got me a steel lipped mag and some different types of ammo... Same thing for a range of different ammo, CCI seemed to be the most reliable.

Second, the more severe of the two... Decided to give her a good cleaning, maybe there was a bunch of crap in the chamber or extractor that I didn't get on my first cleaning (I always give'em a good cleaning right out of the box). Almost done cleaning, and time to reassemble... Draw the charging handle back, going to put the bolt on annnd *snap ping boing* Awe feck as Father Jack would say... Charging handle literally disintegrated in my paws.

So... My first option is to attempt an exchange with The Ammo Source, they don't take returns but all I want is a new gun. I don't like spending over 200$ on a lemon...

Second option is to get a new charging handle, I can't troubleshoot the ejection problems without it. However, where the hell do I find one!?!? I've been searching all afternoon since the debacle and I can't seem to find a basic/affordable charging handle anywhere online...

tl;dr ver.

Brand new RIA 10/22 clone has ejection problems and the charging handle exploded. Where can I find a new and affordable charging handle if The Ammo Source won't exchange the rifle.

Thanks in advance guys n gals.

Sounds like you need a 14$ claw extractor and power spring ( Normally my #1 mod I do on 10/22 ) Questar, Hical.ca or Dlask Arms have a decent selection of 10/22 parts. If not post on the EE for one.

If it was new , take it back and get another one, it is the dealers problem , you should not have to buy parts for a new gun.

Ejection problems on new .22 semi s is not unheard of. The recoil spring might be a bit stiff and just need some time to get worn in during the breakin period. Look at the owner manual and it should indicate how long the breakin period should be. If you could figure out the charging handle problem, you should pick up some Mini Mags or Yellow Jackets and may just do the trick for the first few hundred rounds. I have a friend who was so sick of his 10/22 not consistently cycling and continually stove piping that he gave me the rifle. I ran 200 rounds of Yellow Jackets through it and now it eats everything including subsonic. I now feed it a steady diet of Winchester 333. Lol

As for the charging handle, I would suggest taking a lot of pictures and or a video to document everything and send that part back the the dealer. I sounds like it is a factory defect in the material. I would think the dealer would be much happier dealing with just the charging handle rather than the entire rifle and similarilly the manufacturer. Plus, you will not be out too much for postage if you are just sending the handle and not the entire rifle. My only other advice is to be civil and as pleasant as posible to the person you are speaking to on the other end of the phone. They are doing a job which they may or may not like and the reality is that at the end of the day if you treat someone with respect, they will treat you with the same respect and you will be surprised how much they would be willing to do for you. Give them a chance to correct the problem and good luck.

If it will take a stock ruger one I have a few laying around, PM me your address and I'll send one off to you. You still have the spring and rod?

ps you may want to put your location on the left so everyone knows where you are and local guys can chime in with help, there's probably a free/cheap handle within a 10 minute drive of you, people just need to know where you are:)
