Need Help Making a Decision !!

I know you're going to give him the rifle...

What I REALLY want to know is, are you adopting? Chuckle!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Make sure he promises to lend it back to you IF you hit the mountains again! Oh, and pics of the animals he harvests!

Why not let him choose the 300 wsm for himself.

I can only imagine what a 6 lb 300wsm from the shoulder is like. Would almost rather get kicked by the sheep...
My 300wsm t3 is a hair under 18lbs and even then its still feisty

This is Douglas' son we're talking about not Pierre Trudeau's son (or Pierre for that matter)

Give him the rifle.....get in his good books.......Then....like a kid would do.......Borrow it and don't return it. A little father/son pay back.
He will get it eventually anyway. So, you might as well have a little fun with it.

It will still be in the family to borrow and if you have rifles in the 7lb scoped class that's pretty much what my bone stock TI 300 wsm weighs, not a bad class to be in.

If you do wind up giving your son the rifle you can alwase borrow my Kimber it probably not as accurate as your rifle and it's a 308 and I know your not a fan but it is lighter and I'm sure you can make it work for one more sheep hunt

I appreciate that carverk, but I have no shortage of suitable rifles.............

The under 6 lb 300 WSM isn't that bad to shoot and the kid has already used it for one sheep hunt. Besides he shoots a 7 lb 300 RUM as his regular rifle and he also shoots his 375 Ruger African a lot. Although not as recoil desensitized as his father, as he's never owned anything bigger than the 375 Ruger, he is totally in control up to this level of recoil, he handles the mediums very well. Besides the recoil of a 6 lb 300 WSM has absolutely nothing to do with the quandary.........He is perfectly capable of using the rifle, hell he'd shoot a 6 lb 300 RUM if I built him one........and likely giggle like a little girl every shot.

You guys are wearing me down..........all of what you say is true..........I'm pondering.........

I inherited my uncle model seven 300 wsm haven't shot it yet taking it out this spring on a scouting trip up by Hinton Alberta
Any rifle that is a gift will be vary dear to your son

You're fortunate that your son would take the gun and use it and appreciate it and care for it....give him the gun....

As opposed to...........???????

The "care for it" part has me a little concerned.........he's not noted for the best "care and feeding" of his rifles and this would be worth 4X any other rifle he owns. However I can think of no scenario that a son RAISED BY ME would not want or appreciate one of my higher end hunting rifles.

Ya 'Looky it has some hooks in me..........about 4 thousand of them.......

You've sat on the fence too long Mr. Douglas.
Keep the rifle and go build yerself that goll darn Pengwin.
And while yer muster'in over that lathe that's trying fur yer shirt tail,
build a new rifle for Junior.

Then in this way you'll sleep..............unless the missus finds thet goll dang sawzawl.

Keep it and build a new one for junior. It sounds like his tastes may be slightly different than yours and the Ti may not suit him.

And how about that 22-284 range report? Yer killing us here.

The real question is; what are you going to build on the SAUM action?

I have had a hankering to build a 375 or 416 WSM..............but I also have a couple short 700s and some spare bolts one has the .532 face...so..........I can also lengthen the 700s to accommodate a 3.10 COAL......not as easy with the Mod 7..........PONDERING...
