My wife threw our her kitchen scale. How unkind of her since I need to measure our one lb of Varget from a fellow nutter.

Can anyone tell me how full a 1lb can of Varget is? I can approximate by volume and add some to ensure I'm not ripping the guy I'm trading with off.

In the original Hodgdon plastic jar I'm measuring 2-3/4" from the very top edge to the top of the powder when levelled. It's a brand new jar I opened a week or so ago but haven't used any yet.

I agree with this - I measured 2.7" using digital calipers. This is a new Hodgdon Varget container I opened right now to check for you...

You can easily make a balance scale to measure most things. Take a piece of wood or steel, drill a hole in the centre and 1 at each end equidistant from the centre. Use heavy string or whatever works to hold the centre, then a known good measure attached to one end (prolly easy to use string for a 1 lbs container of powder) and do same with the other one and add until they balance out. Basic methid been used for thousands of years to measure everything from salt to opium.

Gentlemen, you are reading WAAAAY too much into this. I most definitely have a reloading scale; I use a Chargemaster which comes with a scale. I wanted to spend my spare time last night at a local wings joint drinking beer and eating wings with some buddies and had one lb of Varget from a 8lb can that needed to be weighed out for someone I was doing a powder trade with this morning. Just didn't want to weigh in batches of 100 or 150 gr at a time in my Chargemaster's pan.

Figured a volume based approximation would be good enough and I added more than what the volume called for to be on the safe side and to not rip my fellow CGNer off.

Be rest assured, I do reload with a scale! Just not one that it is convenient to measure a pound of powder on at a time; especially not when you need to grab wings and beer with buddies on a Friday night.

Oh my goodness what is this world coming to???????
