Need help mounting a scope on my Tikka

Hi everyone,

I'm mounting an Arken SH-4J Gen2 6-24×50 (34mm tube) on a Tikka ACE Target and need advice on two things:

1. Ring Height: The scope has a 50mm objective. What ring height would be right for this combo (low/medium/high)?

2. QD Mount Compatibility: I've noticed the Arken SH-4J has a small protrusion/bump underneath the turret saddle. Since I prefer to remove the scope from the rifle when traveling to/from the range for my peace of mind, I'm looking at one-piece QD mounts that can clear that bump.


For those that run an Arken scope on a tikka, what ring height did you end up using?
Has anyone successfully mounted an Arken scope a one-piece QD mount?

You will discover that there appears to be no standardization among brands of what is a Low, Medium or High ring - so probably you will want to know both the brand used and the height used.

Depending on the Tikka rifle that you are working with - it may take bases or it may also take a scope mount rail - but many Tikka and Sako rifles also had integral tapered dovetails cut into their receiver - so no bases used if you used actual SAKO rings.
 
1 - taking scope off and on travelling to and from the range - not a great idea. get a good case - even a padded scope cover.

2 - your ace has a picatinny rail - get a good set of rings in either medium or high height. - As Potashminer said, there is no standardization for heights. that said, the pic rail adds enough for most medium rings.

3 - make sure you have correct ring cap and ring to rail screw torque values

4 - once you have correct torque values - make sure you have an in-lb torque wrench

5 - consider wet mounting - go to your tube and search wet mounting scope base

6 - brands you may wanna consider - Vortex Pro Series, Warne, Leupold Mk 4, MDT, Nightforce, area 419, spuhr (for sets of rings) - Nightforce, Area 419, leupold IMS, MDT, Spuhr (for one piece mounts).

Leave scope on and get a decent case. Removing it each time would give me less piece of mind.

In terms of ring height there is a very easy way to determine that….

 
I’ve used dimes, just place them on the action, place scope on them and then measure the thickness of the dimes.

I’ve found that tally rings allow you to get closer to the barrel,over a rail and rings

Upper rifle with the scope and bases is a Tikka T3X - it originally came with a rail that I replaced with front and rear bases.

The lower rifle is SAKO L579 with Leupold rings attached directly to the receiver dovetails - you can see the dovetail cuts on the upper rifle, but I could not find "stainless" looking rings that would clamp to that receiver - so I went with those Weaver rings

I'm using medium 9mm rings (measuring from base to bottom of rings) with an Arken EP5 on my Tikka T3X ace target for reference. Great video reference from Bangalore so if you are using rings measuring centerline then you will need 26mm rings.
 
Talley 1 peice medium rings will fit the bill, I tried low and it was tooooo low. I have a 3.5x10x50 on my t3x lite and the fit is quite nice. Also, the advice with stacking dimes is a very good suggestion. I did that recently when I put a rail on my rem 700. There’s a YouTube video about it that’s idiot proof.

Here's my T1X with the 4-16x Arken SH4 on Arken low (0.92") rings, on an Area419 20moa mount (should be similar to the mount on the Ace), its tight, minimal clearance with caps. I would move up to the medium rings (1.26") at a minimum as the T3X barrel profile is likely larger, or even highs since it's a chassis gun.

Bit late. My son has the Spuhr QDP 4006 (quick detach) on his Tikka with a 34mm 3-27x56 S&B PMII. I wouldn't be worried about the 50mm bell more about the little thing sticking out of the mid scope. The 3-27 PMII is not small either and has a bit of room.

To clear your 50mm objective lens and accommodate the bottom turret protrusion, medium height rings (approx. 1.1" to 1.26") or a 0-MOA one-piece QD mount with a channel cutout are your best options.

Here is the exact breakdown for your Arken SH-4J Gen2 setup on the Tikka T3x TAC A1 / TACT Target style chassis.

1. Ring Height Determination

For a 34mm tube scope with a 50mm objective on a full-length Picatinny rail chassis (like the Tikka Target/TAC system)

Do not use Low Rings: Low rings (around 0.90"–1.0") will cause the 50mm objective bell (which has an outer diameter closer to 58mm with the chassis/flip caps) to strike the continuous top rail.

Choose Medium Rings/Mounts: A height of 1.1" to 1.26" (approx. 28mm–32mm) measured from the top of the rail to the centerline of the scope provides the perfect clearance. It keeps the optic low to the bore while ensuring the objective bell and flip-caps clear the handguard.

Avoid High Rings: High rings (1.45"–1.5"+) are designed for AR-15 flat-tops and will force you to max out your adjustable cheek riser unnecessarily on a bolt-action chassis.2. QD Mount Compatibility (The Arken "Bump")The Arken SH-4J Gen2 features a prominent rotation-stop/turret-mechanism protrusion directly underneath the saddle. Standard flat-surface one-piece mounts will bridge across this area and scratch the scope or prevent it from seating properly.

To safely use a Quick Detach (QD) system for transit, look for mounts featuring a center relief channel:American Defense Manufacturing (ADM) Recon (34mm, Medium Height): ADM mounts feature a recessed center channel between the rings that easily clears the Arken undersaddle bump.

Their QD levers are highly repeatable. Ensure you select the standard or "H" height variant depending on your preferred cheek weld.Warne XSKEL34TW Gen II QD Mount: Warne's skeletonised design naturally leaves the center area under the main body open, completely bypassing the protrusion issue while offering robust return-to-zero capabilities.Arken Optics Rigid Precision Video/QD Mounts: Arken designs their own proprietary mounts specifically with a machined relief pocket underneath the saddle to perfectly fit their own scopes' shapes.

Pro-Tip for Transit
If you are removing the scope frequently for peace of mind, always mount the QD base into the exact same Picatinny slots every single time. Push the mount firmly forward toward the muzzle before clamping the levers down to ensure maximum return-to-zero consistency.
