My wife wants a scope on her little Lakefield single shot .22, there are two machined grooves running along the top of her reciever. What is the proper name for this type of mounting? What kind of rings should I be looking for.
Thanks

You can buy rings that will clamp directly onto those dovetails (grooves) at any gun store, and probably most Canadian Tire stores. They are usually called rimfire/airgun rings. The older name was "tip-off" rings. They are made by all of the major manufacturers, come in many different cosmetic styles, matte/stainless/gloss finishes, various heights, etc. They are, or at least can be, very inexpensive, and they install easily and work well. Get the ones that you like and that look good on your gun. Ideally, you should try to get the lowest height that will allow your chosen scope to just clear the top of the barrel/receiver.

jjohnwm nailed it. Most rimfires have a 3/8" groove and a few like CZ have an 11mm groove. Some rings/bases will mount to both, some won't. Your Lakefield should almost certainly be the more common 3/8" groove.

I like Burris Signature Zee rings for everything, myself. The plastic inserts clamp the scope solidly without leaving any marks, the design compensates for any ring misalignment without wrecking the scope and you can use offset inserts to add elevation or compensate for badly misaligned mounting.

Tip off mounts are the scope bases with the hinge that allow the scope to be tipped
over to use the iron sights.
Not sure if this would be ideal on this application or not.

They typically label them 3/8" base rings these days, but tip off was what they called them at one time for some reason I don't know. Maybe a popular manufacturer??

Here's a list I made up a while ago of various rimfire dovetail sizes. Some dovetail mounts will cover a broader range of size adjustment and others won't (example 9-11mm). A lot of the older mounts were made for rimfire scope tubes of a smaller size (like 7/8, 18 mm, or 3/4). Most people use rimfire scopes with a 1" tube now so you should get that size mount.

9mm (Just under 3/8") -Tula toz 78 and many other european guns
9.652mm (3/8") -Standard- fits most North American rimfires
11mm (7/16") -Anschutz, most cz rimfires and many other european guns
16mm (5/8") -BRNO #1-#5
