Need Help on Noveske KX3 Installation and Rail Compatability

Hey all, I'm planning on attaching the KX3 on my short barreled AR but there's a slight problem. It's a 10.5 inch LMT AR that I have and I'm curious as to how I can attach say a Daniel Defense 10 inch rail and the KX3 at the same time.

Example if you look at the Noveske uppers, they have the KX3 and the rifle rail right up to the end of the rail and my question is, how do I use the wrench to attach it if the rail goes right up to it? I'm afraid that I may need to get a 9 inch rail so that I can get that clearance to use a wrench to attach the KX3....

The only other solution is that I hand tighten the KX3 seeing that the rail blocks where I can screw the KX3 onto the barrel end thread.

Some help would be appreciated.

A strap wrench is your friend.....once the rail is on (assuming that the KX3 and rail will work together without touching) screw the KX3 on, then use the strap wrench around the main body and tighten.

or can you not put the kx3 on first and assuming your dd 10" rail clears the kx3 just put it through? i'm assuming you don't have the 10" rail on at the moment since you are debating the 9"

I have no clue Clubhopper, I never even knew there was such thing as a strap wrench.... you're right I haven't got the rail yet... I haven't even removed the sight post gas block yet..... or even removed the Delta ring. That's how far I've started on my mini project, still getting parts.

No the KX3 looks too big to fit through the rail if I installed the KX3 first. Anyone know where I can find a strap wrench? Canadian Tire? Is this a firearm specific tool? Or is it readily available like a wrench or a screwdriver??

you can buy a strap wrench from canadian tire or princess auto etc...it is not a firearm specific part.

when you get the items just check the fitment of the kx3 through your rail...you never know. depending on which rail you get of course

the pic below does not even space on the kx3 to even put the strap wrench, so he must have put it on first (one would hope).

Several Daniel Defense rail systems have removable sections, so one could install the KX3 first and then install the rail system after (depending on the model). If you want the KX3 to fit inside the rail system, make sure the internal diameter of the rail system is more than 1.35". EDX2308, do you want the KX3 to fit flush with the end of, or fit inside the rail system?

yes that was an extreme case

my 10.3" below. Its got a 9.5" rail on it and the base of the flash hider is tucked in slightly. just to give you an idea of rail length.

10" would look sweet i think

You're correct, the AR15 Lite are one-piece and the Omega X are two-piece rail systems. The Daniel Defense AR15 Lite 10.0 has an internal diameter of 1.22", so the widest part of the KX3 won't fit inside. If you go with the AR15 Lite 10.0, you'll need to install the barrel nut and rail system first, and then install the KX3, probably with a strap wrench. As you can see the only DD rail that will fit the KX-3 , which needs 1.390" minimum is the M4 rail

If you are not looking to fit any of the KX-3 in the forend , then as already mentioned you need a strap wrench.

Problem is most commonly available strap wrenches are too wide

I have a tiny mini one that has 1/2" wide strap. Therefore so long as you have 1/2" of so of he KX-3 exposed no problem to tighten

Some rails that fit a KX-3 inside are the Vltor CasV , the Troy , Viking tac / JP rifle , PRI

I have managed to grab onto a hot KX-3 on more than one ocassion. Problem I have is its on my LMT MRP so I'm stuck with the rail length

I prefer now, with 10.5" builds is to go with a 12"DD light or RIS II and tuck a Levang or Troy claymore for muzzle device . They are less $$ than KX-3
