Ok I Need Help In Picking Out A Handgun Which I Want To Purchase Later This Month, I’m On An Extremely Tight Budget Of $500-600. I Prefer A 40cal Or 9mm. So Far The 2 I Have Been Looking At Are The Ruger SR9 9mm, S&W MP 40cal. Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated. If You Have Pics Of Yours Please Post So I Can See, Thanks

Unless you plan on reloading, I would reccomend a 9mm over the .40, ammo is $6 a box cheaper for 9mm.

If you have your budget set, then the M&P is the best choice, no matter 9mm or .40. Ruger SR9 is too new to the market and has quite a bit of bugs need to solve. there are rugerforum.com and mp-pistol.com can give you more informations.

Of your choices I'd take the S&W over the Ruger. Or go for a Glock.... ;)

I don't know how many times I've read "get a .22" and for the life of me I can't figure out why. The recoil of a 9mm isn't severe and there is no guarantee that a shooter won't develope a flinch regardless of their having started on a .22. Get the gun that feels best in your hand and that you think looks the coolest, then get into reloading so you can afford to shoot as much as possible. Oh yes, and get out and vote - none of this will be possible after the first year of a Liberal government.

As a first gun you wouldn't regret buying a CZ 75B in 9MM. It is not made of plastic. Its heavier, therefor easier to shoot. The people winning ISPC are shooting a variation of it. My 2 cents.

On a budget buy a used Glock 9mm or if you want a 1911 get a Norinco 9mm. Decent pistols and ammo will be less expensive.

One major reason is that a 22 is much cheaper to shoot, and a person will be able to afford to shoot more rounds if the ammunition is cheaper. Some people may find the cost of shooting a couple of hundred rounds of centerfire at each outing a little out of their budget, but most can afford a couple of hundred rounds of 22.

My first handgun was a Glock 17 and I would not have done it any other way. I know it's not on your list of choices but it's cheap, reliable and easy to learn and clean. Just make sure it fits your hand first.
Also, grab the .22 conversion kit for practice :)
