Need Help Picking the Right .22 LR

I would like to pick up a .22 LR, but I have very little knowledge and experience with them. There was a recent thread about the best .22 for a new shooter and CZ seemed to be the top choice followed by the Savage Mark II. My intended use will be shooting targets (cans, targets, clays, etc) out at the farm and a little small game hunting as well. I am guessing I will put/want a scope on it. I don't mind spending a couple hundred more if it means I can just buy once and be done, but should I bother spending more based on my intended use? If CZ is the way to go, which model would be best for my intended use? (there are quite a number of them) What would be a decent scope to match with either the CZ or Savage? As an aside, I do have a Savage 93R17 17hmr and it is quite accurate. I am good (or even prefer) with buying used off the EE. Thanks in advance.
 
I have a CZ, it’s nice and it’s heavy.
I think the savage would do the same thing though.
And it’s a couple or three hundred cheaper.

I think my local CT has the CZ on sale for $459
 
Cz feels the most like a real riffle and the new tikka T1X
Scope is a bit personal preference go to a store and look through a bunch everyone’s eyes are different
Also read about parallax a bit
 
I picked up a cz 455 lux not too long ago. It has irons sights, but I put on some high rings so I could use my VortexViper 3-9×40 without interfering with the bolt handle or rear sight. Its become one of my favorite rifles.
 
I have a few wood stock plinkers and dread getting them dinged. However, I haven't found a polymer stock that feels or looks as good as wood.
98% of my shooting is off the bench and so far the best compromise I found between looks, feel and ergos is the Savage MKII TR. Not only is the stock wood but it has a durable "tactical" finish and is accurate(CCI SV/Blazer) wearing a Bushnell AR 3-12x40 Optic.

Best thing is to handle both. Decide on the type of use and buy one. I don't think you can go wrong with either.....

CZ all the way, savage is very accurate and cheaper, however their magazine feel, construction, insertion, removal and how they are held in place in the rifle are negative points in my book.
 
CZ 457 is coming to be coming out in 2019 as well. Might be worth waiting for that too. At the end of the day there are so many good options, its hard to go wrong.
 
The cz452 ultra lux with the 28.5 inch barrel is really quite something. Still come up on the EE.
the only problem with them is finding a case that's long enough.
I'd get one of those and yes, a worked over 10/22, Kidd trigger, green mountain sporter barrel. That's for a guest or something completely different.

They look nice; but I think I will wait to see how they pan out. It is an extensive redesign. I think they will be substantially more money than the 455 (which has not been discontinued). I have a 455 in .17 HMR and am loving it; what a shooter it is! My next rifle will likely be 455 ultra lux. or ultra match; maybe even a Jaguar; I'll see what comes along when I'm ready.

This is the reason why I didn't buy a Savage for many years. However, when the TR came out I was able to overcome my views on the mags (but they work).
My Buddy has the CZ 455 22lr Varmint (20" HB). Beautiful looking rifle. The stock trigger is a little heavy but shoots accurate with bulk ammo.

I can't see any real difference in accuracy between his CZ and my TR. Both are fun to shoot but I prefer my TR off the bench and in the "looks" department....:)

IIRC....I picked my up for <$400 in VG condition off the EE.

People here are all about the CZ 22lr because they are reliable, look nice and work well. Another option to look at as its very new but should perform if it matches the brand is the Tikka 1x No iron sight option on the Tikka yet that I've seen.


Best Advice if your patient, wait 6 months for the new CZ line of 22LR's to hit our shores and get one of those or reap the discount of those selling off their old models for new ones.
