Need Help Picking the Right .22 LR

Or a BRNO

Haven't seen that name used on the rimfires for quite a few years now. Confusing history of the name and factories, but every rifle coming from the Czech Republic was labeled a
BRNO, even if it was made in the CZ plant. That's changed now, but they are still nice rifles.

I don't know if the old ones were any better; either name means a good gun, and likely the most affordable rifle displaying real craftmanship available.

From what the usage parameters are I would go with the CZ American scoped.
This rifle has a Walnut stock whereas the "Canadian", "Australian" and "Irish" are Beech.
A 2-7 scope may suffice but the moment targets beyond cans and clays are mentioned then at 100 yards you will have problems determining which shot was which when two are in the same hole. Without a scope you are at one power and may limit yourself for target groups.
What I have spent on CZ's I could have had an Anschutz 1710 or 1712. My Anschutz 1416 is capable of 1" at 100 yards/meters with quality ammo.
Until you have shouldered a number of rifles in your price range you may end up with more than one purchase.
I work in a sporting goods store and there are some things a man or woman should not buy her spouse . . . firearms, scopes, knives and binoculars as these are personal items. The same may apply to CGN where you cannot buy a "Gift Card"!
Your local gun club may be a source to try various guns for fit and feel but for fun and cost you can't beat a 22 long rifle.

If your thinking of upgrading a lower end rifle I’d consider saving for a higher quality rifle. My 452 varmint is very nice but I spent money into it bringing its cost to over 1000$. Anschutz 1710 or 1712 is a very nice. Tikka T1X and Sako Quad are good too

Have you considered the Savage B22? I got one and love it. The B22 replaces the Mark II and has great features such as the 10 round flush mag and a more ergonomic stock.

I got the B22 with the intent to upgrade a CZ later. But then the B22 made me not want a CZ anymore. Just my opinion though.

Oh yeah, and the Savage is Made in Canada.

If I didn't have the Quad, I would definitely look at the T1X.

Well said!

I have had a handful of 452s and 455s. I no longer own any of the 455s but kept the 452s.
If you can find a new or lightly used 452 American or LUX, go for it.

Frontier still lists the 452 Lux. It will do 99% of what most people are capable of at a reasonable price.

This is incorrect. While the CZ is a fine .22, it’s not a match rifle. It’s not that hard to get to a point where the variance from the rifle is more than the shooter.

The CZ is a good choice but I wouldn’t recommend anything less accurate.

I love my 452 Varmint, besides the best glass you can afford, it only needs a cheap yodave spring kit as an upgrade. My trigger is a safe 9oz.
I also really enjoy my Kidd Barreled 10/22.

If I could get another CZ right now, it would be a 452 American. I am curious about the 457 American, the Tikka T1X, & the Sako Finnfire Varmint though.

If someone asked me what 2 Rimfires I would buy, Cry at how much I spent, then be happy the rest of my shooting life.
Anschutz Match 54 1710 D HB and Vudoo Gunworks V22 Apparition would be my choices, but the twos total cost would be over 5 grand without optics. These are my lotto guns.

Well said my first 452 had all the work done and is faboulos my second a 455 just had the Yodave trigger done and is pretty close..so a very good buy

Let's be honest here folks...one .22LR is not enough. You need a good bolt one (I went with CZ 455 Cdn but added a boys Evo stock) and A fun shooting semi ...hard to beat the 10/22 but that darn RCMP interpretation is preventing us from buying 25 rds mags, so best option may be the Remington 597

If it wasn’t for th3 aftermarket of the 10/22 to make it better, it would be the 597. No aftermarket parts on my 597 and non of the 10/22’s I’ve had have even come close.
