Hello and help. I will try to be brief. Went to the range today to sight in scope on new EBR stock. I had already fired a few rounds last week with no issues. Today on the first round the whole action jammed up half open tighter than a bull's arse at fly time. I forgot to bring a mag so I loaded manually and made sure the bolt was fully locked into position before firing. What I ended up with was the recoil spring guide rod half way into the mag well and the bolt half way back with the empty case still attached. Nothing could get the action to move. I took the whole mess apart at home and released the pressure enough to disassemble all the parts. No damage visible.

So my question is, do I have to make a filler of some sort to prevent the connector lock from backing out, as that is what I think happened. Is there a difference in dimensions from the Norc receiver ( what I have ) compared to the S.A. receiver ? Why wouldn't the connector lock back out with a S.A. Receiver ? I know THE DOC fills in the stock of USGI types to prevent this so why would Sage leave such a big gap ?

There is a chance that in my excitement, I might have assembled the guide rod incorrectly as I was in a big rush to try it out. Please limit answers to actual knowledge and not urban myths or IIRC. Just the facts sirs.

I don't have an EBR personally but it sounds like op guide rod lock slid open and put the while action out of.. Action? I would imagine you would need to manufacture a fill in for the slot. As the stock would be designed to work with a USGI style action? Can you not Disassemble it and see if the lock could have moved?

You need the "popsickle stick fix" to keep the connector lock from backing out. Or swap out your chinese connector lock with an american spec one (they're longer)

That would explain why the chinco one would back out. I would rather swap a longer one than glue popsicle sticks in. Will do a temporary filler in the mean time. Any idea's where I can get the longer connector lock ? Thanks for the good answer btw.

Brownels sells the standard and NM connector pinns. NM is chinese length, the other is G.I.
Randy at treelinem14 might have em too.
I'm fresh out or would happily flip ya one frank ;)

Now I gotta wade in for some #### loss prevention...
Never, I mean never, load an m14 action without using the mag.
Droppin the bolt with a round in the chamber is big time playing with fire. This is well documented in the US literature pertaining to do's and don'ts.
Cheers n play safe ;)

Thanks Thomas. I will NEVER single load in the M-14 again. The local range now has a gong at 200 yds. I just gotta hit it with my M-14. So filler it is for now. Many thanks.

A dab of silicon in the appropriate place on the stock also works as a temporary fix

Fixed it ! I hope. The gap was too much for silicon but I shaped a piece of hard black plastic to fit perfectly and hot glue gunned it on.
I will still try to find a longer connector cause I just hate the thought of a bubba fix. It will fall off the moment I get that trophy deer in the cross hairs. I hope to meet you at the Summer clinic if you can make it. Got a cuban cig with your name on it. Cheers.

Please don't look at this as some kind of comprehensive range report. Just a "happy ending" to yesterday's problems. With only six .308 rounds left I headed out to test the new rifle with the scope mounted and the "popsicle stick fix". I could not be happier with the initial results. Three rounds fired off a block of wood on the bench grouped a nice 1 7/8 " group. I have a keeper here and will now spend the time working on a load. Ammo was Federal 168gr Sierra Game King. Decent hunting round and not too shabby in the accuracy dept. Much more to come. I dragged the CQB out to sight in the Aimpoint as well at 50yds. One round was allocated for this so no group.

The fourth round was a rough attempt to adjust the cross hairs. Need more ammo !

Thanks ! I wlll do some artistic shots with nice sunset like H2O Man when it warms up. The Sage is 1 pound heavier as pictured. Your CQB balances so beautifully though. Next is to black parkerize the metal.... maybe. Gotta get more ammo first and not make them too pretty.
