Hi Guys,

Reaching out to the community for some help. I have been diligently searching everywhere to find out the muzzle thread size on my XCR LRT. Looking to get a new muzzle brake to tame this thing a little more, and can't seem to find any information anywhere. I even called remington support and all they could tell me was this was a 5/8" X 24. Now if i stand corrected this is the thread pitch and size for the .308 version. I have found some other possibilities, 3/4" X 24 or M18 X 1.5mm. Any Help would be appreciated.

Cheers; Hans

You could start with measuring the diameter of the muzzle threads on your rifle. Big difference between 5/8 and the others... 5/8 is .625". The others are about .709" and .750".

I would love to be able to, however i can't get the factory brake off of it... apparently you have to heat it to like 450 degrees and free the lock tite they put on it in the factory, i am very sketchy about doing it... going to send it out to a smith with a new brake to put on but not sure what size to order...

Yes a Loctited brake requires quite a bit of heat and then still requires a lot of force to remove it... best to hold the barrel solidly in a vice while doing it.

So what's wrong with the factory brake that you need a different brake? Just itching to spend some money? I know the feeling. lol

I have a buddy of mine with a MDT muzzle break on his lapua and there is a very noticeable felt recoil from his to mine with the factory brake on my remy... Just looking for a little more let off and ease of shooting over the days...

5/8 - 24

It's the standard size (unless you're browning who does their own thread sizes just to be #######s)

You are comparing apples to Buicks. The Rem 700 is a very lightweight rifle and is gonna recoil way harder than most other 338 LM rifles. I doubt the MDT brake will make much difference.

I am slinging the Rem 700 XCR LRT in 338 Lapua, and my buddy has almost the same identical rifle. Both are weighting in roughly 18lbs (-/+) 1lb. he has the MDT brake on it and i am still running the factory brake. There is definitly a noticable difference between the both... I was also looking at the 5 port APW aswell. Any thoughts on the APW compared to the MDT?

I looked at the APW Raptor Monster brake for months for my 338LM, but I could never find the thread size I needed in stock.
I went with the gen 3 APA fat b@stard on my 338. It's performed better than I hoped for, great brake.
