Hi,

I have a Bushnell Scope Chief VI 2.5-8 and a Tasco 4-16X40. I find it very difficult to mesure accurately the dimensions with a caliper, especially the tapered eye lense of the Bushnell. I always get different measurements, sometimes by as much as 0.005 of an inch and since catalogs sometimes list dimensions to the nearest thousandth I am not sure what size to order. Some people tell me to order a size bigger and shim with tape if needed and others tell me to go a size smaller because it will stretch some. Can someone out there give me sound advice? It would be much appreciated.

Regards,

PJM

Are they not available to you from a local shop? The best way to solve this is walking in and trying them on. The Butler Creek guide is not always correct, their suggestions have been wrong more than once. This most likely does not help but you may have to travel to your nearest gunshop.

Thanks Thad. I appreciate your reply. I might just have to go to a gun shop. It's just that I am in the process of putting in a big order at Cabela's and it would have been nice to get everything at the same place especially that gunshops in this area are few and far between and it is hard to get good deals.

Regards,

PJM

I will check and see if we have your scope at work tomorrow and if so will try on the covers and pass on to you which sizes you need. There are some Tasco`s but not sure if yours is in stock, will get back to you after work Sunday night. Do not have that model Bushnell though.

I'd get the smaller ones closest to your size.
What are your measurements?
Does your caliper measure in metric as well?

Hi Can-Down,

Bushnell eye=1.472 in.(37.40 mm)
objective= 1.544 in.(39.23 mm)

Tasco eye= 1.558 in.(39.57 mm)
objective= 2.010 in.(51.06 mm)

No luck on either scope, sorry. Like I said the "chart" has been wrong for so many people I would not go by their suggestions.

In order to find the correct scope cover you need, measure the outside diameter of your scope in inches. (For example, 1.225 inches).
If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the smaller of the two that are available.
(the formats messed up but hopefully you can decipher the list:))
