For some reason the bushmaster AR I bought has a pinned muzzle break. I'd like to put something different and more effective than what is on it. Now is there anyone around hamilton area that can thread my barrel for reasonable cost? Please help.

Most are threaded on then pinned. (except for some REALLY OLD Bushmaster rifles, IIRC are press fit into place)

If you do it right, you can grind off the welded over area (should be visible on the flash hider) then drill out the blind pin bit by bit until the flash hider is free.

If you're not confident enough to do it yourself, send it over to Casey at Tactical Ordnance. He's out of Newmarket, ON so you could probably take a drive down there and drop it off.

He's a site sponsor here, and does excellent work!

No welding or threading. The break is lightly pressed on then pinned. Punch pin out pull the break off. So...I need the barrel threaded. Nothing more

Casey can do threading as well! Weird to see one of the older Bushy press fit barrels still floating around :D

About the only thing I'd wonder about, is if the OD is big enough for 1/2x28 threads, but other than that, it should be a simple enough job!

What it looks like is the size is right but threads were never cut. Just slid on and pinned. Only trouble I have is removing and replacing the barrel. Also...will the chanel cut for the pin affect the thread? Its an Hbar just so you know.
As far as shipping...well I'd rather take it there.

probably bought the 14.5, they pin them to make 16 inch in the US. Grind it off a bit and tap it out.

Honestly Casey is the guy to ask, but from what I hear a lot of the guys in the USA after the Assault weapons ban expired drilled out pinned on brakes or flash hiders and used them just fine. As far as removing the barrel, just bring him the upper without the handguards etc... and he can do all the work to it...

If you want, shoot him a picture to his Email address of the muzzle end, and he'll be able to give you a good idea what it will entail to thread it!
