I posted this In a different forum and found out that we have this lovely Canada forum.... so heres my post. Yes im a little green
I write stuff because im learning and trying to understand all of this info about guns/scopes/rings/bases/MOA over the net and its alot to take in. I know its kind of a excuse but I learn better when I have someone right beside me running me through in person. I only have a few gun stores avaliable there in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, and I get the vibe that ppl don't want to help me when I go there. Either they have something else to do, or don't want my business.... or maybe Im catching them at a bad time. Anyways lol.. I just got my PAL and bought my very first rifle!!!! Its a Remington 700p in .300RUM. Now I plan just to shoot paper with this gun for a long time to get use to the whole idea of shooting a high powered rifle. In time I would like to do accuate long distance shooting(maybe 400-1000yrds) Ive only shot a .22 with no optics and a Beeman Pellet gun with some fancy Canadian Tire optics! Surprisingly its pretty accuate for shooting beer cans at the lake. Now, I have my eye on a Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster Riflescope. I don't fully understand what all the numbers in the scope defintion mean. I am planning on getting Leupold Mk4 rings and base. Kinda leaning towards the one piece base. Im not sure if the base has any MOA and if it does what does that mean? Also what rings should I be getting?? Low/Med/High? Im forsurely getting Mk4 rings and base, my local gun store sells them.. surprise surprise, Im just not sure which ones. Im sorry for all the questions all at once, and also the bad grammer and spelling.. but partying takes a toll after a few years Wink If you can think of any scopes from Leupold that would compare to the Nikon that would be awesome because my gun dealer doesn't sell Nikon, so I would have to ship.
p.s. does the scope come with intrustions on what the little dials do? And if MOA is a 1/4 turn does that mean one fully turn is 4"??
p.s.s what would you recommend on cleaning supplys for the rifle?
thanks once again.
edit, I think i'll be shooting Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded in either 180 or 150
