hey I just bought the above shotty
Mossberg590A1SPXBayonet.jpg

and after some dryfire drills I now realize its slightly too big for me,

I just need to take maybe an inch or an inch and a half off the stock or something so Im not overextending my reach when I shoulder the gun.

so is it possible to just cut down a synthetic stock? or is there some good aftermarket stocks I should be looking at?

I have the exact same shotgun. By far my favourite shotgun. Built like a tank! Ultra reliable. I put the Mesa Tactical stock with the enidine buffer tube. It should do the trick for you. Casey at Tacord can get them. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic....

It's possible to cut the stock down around an inch and a quarter as far as I recall from when I did it, just be sure to measure several times and make sure of your cut line.
I would suggest looking into a Hogue 12" lop stock and forend combo much much more comfortable and way more grippy, I have the combo on my 590a1 now.

The Hogue forend is great, the short LOP stock you might find a alittle to short at first, you might need to give it some range time to get use to it. Don't rap your thumb around the stock when shooting it,lay it along the hand.

Take the recoil pad off and see how that shoulders for you, [DON'T FIRE IT THIS WAY!] this should give you an ideal of how short you'd want it, it'll be about an 1" longer then the Hogue short LOP stock.

where can i pick up these shorter LOP stocks and fore end though? I can find good sites and such for ar furniture but not shotties

Don't be so quick to chop/swap the stock; I've found that the mossberg "feels" longer because the forend is farther forward than most other shotguns. As mentioned before, try the hogue overmold forend before modifying the stock.

If you compare the 590A1 with an 870, you'll notice that they're proportionally identical except for the pump distance.

well thanks for the help, I checked out milarm, but was a bit pricey for what i wanted, found a scorpion stock off brownells with a good grip and recoil absorber + foreend for about 100$ so should work nicely.

does any company make a shorter stock that is also a speed feed style?

Yes.....
The Speedfeed Tactical 4-S model features the same polymer construction and pistol grip as the Speedfeed 4 stock, but the length of pull has been shortened to 13". This makes the stock much easier to maneuver in tight places, especially in tactical situations when body armor is used. If an even shorter length of pull is needed, the recoil plate (sold separately) can be installed in place of the recoil pad, reducing the length of pull by another inch. This stock is also perfect for young or small framed shooters. 12 gauge only. Black
