I have a 22 remington 597. The owner previouse to me painted the Rifle grayish green camo style( ok they tried to) I know the stock is plastic and the paint is coming off in many places. I want to clean this paint off. What do you recommend I use to take the paint off the barrel and plastic stock? I have not tried anything yet as I do not want to ruin the metal and plastic. Any ideas as to how to clean this crappy paint off?

I would remove the barreled action from the stock. The metal will probably be the easiest to deal with. Paint thinner should remove the paint without affecting the blueing unless the original finish was removed or sanded for painting. As far as the plastic stock ... that could be a little more difficult unless the paint wiĺl chip or peel off. Not sure what chemical you could use that wouldn't damage the plastic. A pressure washer might work without damage to the plastic but again you'd want to remove the barreled action. Come to think of it I have a orbital nozzle for my pressure washer That I 've used to strip paint .I'd probably try it on the whole gun. Don't think the water would hurt anything so long as it was dried and lubbed well when done

Try so Graffiti Remover wipes , it will remove the spray paint and should not hurt the under lying finish .

If the paint has been on for a long time , lay the wipe on the paint for a number of minutes then wipe with with a fresh damp wipe .
