Just purchased it and cleaned it. It won`t feed and I noticed a spring missing. First pic is off google with spring. The bottom pic is mine with missing spring. It seems this spring wraps the rear mag tube and sits in the upper slot. I checked Numerich and there was no pic or listing for this spring. I`m trying to locate one and what ever this spring is called will help my search tremendously. Thanks, Darcy

It won't matter what it's called I doubt you will find one. That rifle has been discontinued for sooooo loooong. You may have to buy another one that has the spring. They were junk when they were new. Sorry you spent money on it.

It looks like the one spring you have is installed backwards compared to the first picture.

I may be able to help you out with that spring, it acts as sort of cartridge holder as the carrier lifts the cartridge into battery position. As tactless as guntech's remark was he is pretty close to the truth about the function of the rifle. This spring may lead you down a path that will ultimately end in expensive group therapy sessions. PM me with your address and I will see if I can dig one up for you. Regards David Henry.

Really guys the Savage Stevens firm went to a lot of work in developing this weird sort of blow back and hold the bolt open system which has plagued gunsmiths for countless years as to how in the heck can we make this contraption cycle reliably. Its a wonder Cooey didn't invent it, oops I may have stepped on hallowed ground. Sorry fellow Canadians. D.H.

Try Western Gun Parts in Edmonton if you haven't already done that. I bought a firing pin and extractor clip from them for my 87D about 5 years ago. They seemed to know exactly what I was looking for and didn't need part numbers.

I have a whole bunch of those rifles, with a couple being a bit beyond retrieval. If you can't scare one up, I'll likely be able to salvage one from these old ones.

The missing spring is a 'Cartridge Guide Spring'. If all else fails a new made replacement is available at Western Gun Parts, although it is pricey at about $30.00. They also have a minimum purchase charge set up, plus minimum mailing charge.
I bought and replaced that spring, along with a 'Cartridge Lifter Spring' from them to re-hab a sentimental-valued 87 for an acquaintance.
Total cost of the two springs delivered here in Alberta was right around $65.00 if I remember correctly, but it did fix the fail to feed problem.

Never had issues with mine, the thing shoots perfect, only had a jam due to trying to see if it fired subsonic ammo (opened the mag tube and it un-jammed). I'd take it over a 10/22 any day.
